Flyrx7 pod - what am i missing?

I can NOT for the life of me get the rear clips to lock. there is a half inch gape in the rear of my pod...like its leaning forward. im going mad trying to figure this out. what am i doing wrong? this should be the simplest thing to install. there is no obstruction.

GoodfellaFD3S 03-09-11 10:10 PM

Is it a quad pod? IIRC his instructions state that with the quad you may have to sand down the trailing edge of the pod to get it to sit flush.

Supernaut 03-09-11 10:43 PM

I had this problem with the IRP pod. I just lowered the clips a little bit and BAM now its perfect! Fit right in. I think the problem was that the clip was to high to engage. When I had the flyrx7 pod, I remember them looking very similar so it should apply to the flyrx7 one as well. They have the detachable stock clips right?

BlouZbee 03-10-11 06:00 AM

Its the triple pod and it was the clips. Supernaut you are a god among men. Thank you very much.

Alarm went off, reached for my phone, checked this thread, jumped in the shower thinking about what i read, got partway dressed and went out into the garage. lol.
Messed with the clips and in snapped right into place...such relief.

Best bowl of Cheerios i ever ate in my life!

Supernaut 03-10-11 08:12 AM

Hahaha I'm glad I can help.

moosejaw 03-10-11 09:17 AM

Is the flyrx7 pod similar to the one prosport sells?

Supernaut 03-10-11 09:49 AM

Nope. Flyrx7s are probably the best pods being made now. Appaerntly by a large margin. I owned a 52mm 3 pod once. It is really well made. You can still get them new but alot of people think they are really rare haha.

CYD 03-10-11 10:35 PM

Side note, I've got a 3 gauge pod available...haha

Yes they are the same. Only difference it the pod texture. I prefer the Prosport pod and have owned the flyrx7 3 pod, Prosport 3 pod, and currently I have the Prosport 4 pod installed.

You sure about this? It doesn't look like the prosports come with the clips either.

moosejaw 03-11-11 12:29 PM

I just bought the Prosport four gauge pod
I will check to see if indeed it has clips

I am sure they are the same. As far as coming with the clips I don't remember because I've lost so many down that damn blackhole between the original speaker grill, the three pods I've owned, to changing gauge brands. Honestly I sold the flypod for a nice profit because they were bringing such ridiculous prices and bought the Prosport 3 pod. When Prosport came out with the 4 pod I bought it and sold the prosport 3 pod.

Anyways, a little while back I bought 8 clips from Ray Crowe and it cost less then $2 (wanted to keep some in stock lol). Not sure what shipping was because I bought other things at the same time. Now then, when removing the original speaker grill, it already has clips.

Supernaut 03-14-11 09:05 PM

I spoke to Frank (creator). He says they look the same but are different. I'd defintely would like some of his input. Honestly guys, we should support dudes like him instead of supporting companies that rip off good ideas. Without guys like Frank we wouldn't have new stuff. Prosport certainly wouldn't make us anything nice.

RX007CYM 03-15-11 09:13 AM

To bad Frank went missing for years, not responding to numerous emails from many different forum members. You don't have to believe me when I say they are all the same except for the texture, but they are. Also, thanks to Frank going MIA, I was able to turn a profit on his pod I bought second hand and replace it with the same pod for cheaper. I track my seven on Sebring, Road Atlanta, and others and my current Prosport 4 pod does exactly what the flypod did, holds gauges in the exact positions I want properly and securly. Prosport has never ignored any of my emails.

I thought Frank was gone to until I looked into it more. He has been around just somewhere different. I'm glad you turned a profit on the pods. For a while now i thought they were to expensive. Thats why I looked for him haha. He has responded to my emails quickly man.

Either way, he is making a batch right now as we speak or he is done and is waiting on clips or something.

I don't know which is better. I never owner the prosport. Alot of gauge pods can hold your gauges in adverse conditions. The thing that concerns me the most is fitment and longevity. I don't want pods that will melt on me in the future (not saying prosport will).

RX007CYM 03-15-11 09:45 AM

Understood. There was a time before your join date where he wasn't here and he wasn't on another forum. He isn't here because of vendor fees. If he is more dedicated to his production, great. There were many of us who were left sour because of his lack of interest in his own product. I know the pods aren't his livelihood but he still could have taken down his email address off his old website or at least responded to emails. I owned his pod three years, held up great. I've owned the Prosport 4 pod 3-4 years, has also held up great. I can't imagine either one melting because they have both gotten to experience 105+ degree track temps on Sebring in July.

That is some good info my man. I think the big thing though isn't how hot the car gets during a track session but how hot it gets when you park the car outside for a long time in the sun. I mean I would never do it to any of my FDs if I had a choice but you never know. Either way I defintiely appreciate the info.

I was told by Prosport they made the mold of an existing car that was on the west coast of Florida. It was a Yellow FD (Dont know if it was CYM or not) I dont think Prosport was aware it was produced in qty's beforehand.

Flyrx7 03-15-11 01:54 PM

Supernaut, thanks for helping BlouZbee with her fitment problem. All cars are not quite the same when it comes to the dashpad thickness, coupled with the possibility of minor variations in clip height can cause symptom as described. Sometimes all it takes is a firm downward insertion too. Also, as Rich said, some Quad's may need attention to the rear passenger side pod (instruction are included with all Quads).

Also, if anyone ever has any issues with their pod, you can always contact me for resolution and/or help. I always stand behind my product. A public forum is a great resource for info, but most times the original mfg. may be a better place to start.

Regards,
Frank

Interesting. I guess its of no relevance to me though. I'll have enough gauge pods and FDs for a while haha.

unlimitedrotations 03-15-11 02:46 PM

good topic i was just looking at where to get one of these

Flyrx7 03-15-11 02:52 PM

The last time I came on this site to clear up misconceptions and answer questions I was banned for not complying with the vendor rules imposed by the new ownership (shelling out huge sums to sell a single, specialty product doesn’t make sense for a small time guy like me) and I wasn’t even hawking wares, just offering customer support. Thus I don't come here to reply to the many posts regarding gauge pods, even if it’s simply for customer support, as it may be deemed a grey area and I want to respect the forum rules.

If anybody needs to get a hold of me they know how to do it. I always answer emails...sometimes it may take a little longer, but I do get to them. Any customer support issues should be briefly identified in the subject header to ensure a prompt response.

The real issue I have and the reason I feel compelled to post here is that prosport is stealing and profiting off of my intellectual property and my original design with their knock-off pods, and for someone to say that they are made the same is a false statement, potentially libelous, and requires rebuttal.

Do the prosport’s come with clips?
Do the prosport’s have concealed set-screw gauge retention?
Do the prosport’s have visible seams left over from the molding process?
Are the prosport’s made by a member of the rotary community?
Do they offer an original design of their own or just steal an existing one?

Fundamentally, they may do the same thing; hold gauges. But the difference is in the details. I know someone will say “But yours weren’t available”, and that may have been true, but does that give anyone the right to steal?

As consumers, you guys have the right to buy from anybody you want, I don't dispute that and wouldn't expect anything less, but please don't spread false information saying they are the same, they are not. As for prosport business and design practices, I guess it's ok to steal to make a buck, instead of being original, but that's really not for this discussion and I’ve already said enough.

Regards,
Frank

PS. I’m not here to debate any of the above information, discuss pod production or sales, in this thread or anywhere on this forum. This will be my last post in this thread regarding any of the above issues. If anyone needs to talk to me more about this, you know how to find me.

I have to chime in here. Due to overwhelming demand from this and other rx7 communities about a center pod because some people were waiting close to 1 year for one with no response so we worked closely with local rx7 members to come up with our own design(it is much more complex than the fly pod.) and within 2 months were making them for the rx7 community. That was the only reason we made them was because soooo many people were not getting anywhere with Fly pod and after a year of waiting they gave up. So I am not sure why you look at us as the bad guy ?? and actually suggest NOT to support us??
