Fixed MOP, ne code comes up. help

so i had a problem with the harness going to the metering oil pump. the drive belt going to the air pump had warn through a few of the wires. someone pointed out that a MOP code would put the computer into "limp mode" causeing it to run like crap which it has been. i fixed the harness one wire at a time and the code is still there plus, it still runs like crap and a code for the knock sensor (5) has been added to the list. please help. the 5 never came up before. only mods are a gutted precat and apex'i exhaust. please help. thanks.

sorry for the spelling in the title. should say NEW instead of NE.

un hook the battery, then hold the brake petal for 10 seconds and that should reset the computer then try it again, if its still doing it maybe it shorted the omp and it may need to be replaced.

willub and company 03-01-06 06:43 AM

shit, you know what. i think i did short it. i was having my electrcian friend do the wring and he insisted that the battery didnt have to be disconected. he shorted some wires. i remember now. we tried reseting the codes. but what about the knock sensor. is that tied into that system??

Gadd 03-01-06 06:55 AM

The Knock sensor is above the trailing sparkplug on the front rotor housing with a single wire going to it. check the wire and the connector, it may have been unpluged or the wire damaged when you changed the plugs.

ok i think i might have pulled on it and disconnected it when i tried to get of the MOP harness.

willub and company 03-01-06 08:34 AM

i have a spare pump. do you think i should just replace it all together or just try and trace the problem? is there a fuse for this that would have burnt out??

tt_13b93 03-01-06 09:12 AM

i would replace the whole thing, and i had your problem before, when i replaced it the knock light went off. i think whenever the knock sensor has to work it trips a code that throws the car into limp mode. the reason the knock worked is because you had no oil being injected into your rotor housings.

willub and company 03-01-06 09:18 AM

ill probably do that. thanks

Gadd 03-01-06 09:59 AM

The pump has nothing to do with the knock sensor, but the wiring may run thru the same place you made the repairs for the pump wiring. Did you clear the code for the pump? If you did there would be no reason to repace it. Inspect the knock sensor and wiring.

tt_13b93 03-01-06 10:17 AM

He said its throwing both omp and knock now. but yes check the knock first b ut i think its the omp. also make sure the harness is plugged into the omp tightly.

willub and company 03-01-06 12:58 PM

i did reset it. when i first finished the wiring and got it all back together and plugged the battery back in, it pulled no codes. as soon as i started it up, it pulled all the codes (5 26 27). so it is somthing in the wiring. i think it was the short. BUT, couldn't this be a fuse that both the knock and pump are run through???

willub and company 03-01-06 09:48 PM

couldnt find a single blown fuse. i checked at the plug from the MOP harness to the main and it was not fully clipped but that didnt do anything. so F***ing frustrated!

tt_13b93 03-02-06 12:58 AM

Hey, just trust me here. Replace the pump and save yurself some headache. make sure you have a 1/4" drive ratchet, long extentions, and a 10mm swivel socket. my '93 did it and my friend had a '95 fd that did it too. they threw your same exact codes. and if the other pump has another harness on it change that too.We wer beating our brains out trying to get it out of limp dick mode.

willub and company 03-02-06 07:48 AM

haha i will. i'll throw it up on the lift this weekend. i spent like two hours last night trying to find my mistakes and spent more time pissing myself off then finding anything ;). oh well . thanks tt 13b93. and Gadd.

tt_13b93 03-02-06 02:09 PM

no prob. Let me know how it comes out, if it dont work you can kick me, lol but im 100% on this one.

rx7will 03-02-06 09:22 PM

You can test the omp. Look in the service manual. All you do is check the resistance values of the wires. Its pretty easy.

willub and company 03-03-06 11:11 AM

yeah in know but i have a good one ready to go in and im pretty damn sure it is fried.

willub and company 03-05-06 02:00 PM

fixed it. what happened was when i fixed the wires before., it acctually was fixed. then when i started it up, they got caught in the main drive pulley and got ripped off. so i replaced them today (after finding the problem) and fixed the knock sensor which got ripped at the same time. nnow it is perfect. pulls like i always dreamed it would. thanks to everyone who had input.

willub and company 03-05-06 02:01 PM

oh yeah, it was just wiring not the pump itself. pump is perfect. im very happy right now

tt_13b93 03-05-06 11:58 PM

Hell yea, good easy fix. Thought you would have checked that again though, lol but its ok, we all make mistakes.

willub and company 03-06-06 10:25 AM

yeah. atleast it's done and my car runs like it should. thanks tt

yes i am a noob and i know this is an old thread but i actually did the same thing, my uncle helped me for a second and i didnt get everything hooked up yet and he cranked the motor and it ripped the wires from my mop, complicated story. the harness and all got ripped out from the connector,i dont even know which wire is which color , can i ask you to help me wire up my mop. i know thats the only problem and i dont have a service manual and this is my daily driver, ive been catching the bus to work all this time and need your assistance. i just need to know what wire goes where. only the nine total at the top connector and the three to the stepper motor i think and the six that goes to the pump? please help.

ppiiggppoorrkk 04-06-07 01:22 AM
