first time rotary buyer
uh-oh its the newbie:)
hi all, I am in the market for a cheap high mileage rx-7 so I can start to build my weekend/track warrior. I will probably strip out alot of stuff I was about the turbocharge my IS3 but I'd rather keep it stock daily driver and get another car what are your opinions, should I buy a clean record, cheap hile mileage rx-7 and swap a low mileage engine with new tranny or mod on a low mileage rx-7 my absolute limit in budget is around 15000 max |
Get a cheap high milage and start building from the begining.

you won't be able to mod a "cheap low milage" FD for 15000, because it will be hard to get one for under that price...personally I don't think you should get one if thats your ABSOLUTE budget, because chances are you will need more than that, however, i'm not sure on the cost of fixing up a cheap high milage FD. If you are going to buy one with a Blown Engine, it'll run you around 10k, then assuming your doing your own work, you'll spend at least 3k on a new engine/rebuild, then depending upon whats in the car, you'll be spending the other 2k on reliability mods before you actually get to the modding part your thinking of now.

if your doing the work yourself. buy one for 7to 8 grand
and you will have enuff money left over to get the project going `johnny |

buy a high mileage FD with a rebuilt motor for around 12 to 14 k that has a clean body and title. put another 1 to 3 k in reliablility mods and maybe a power mod or two.

It will cost several thousand to make it a reliable track car. With that low budget, you are better off starting with a RX-7 Turbo II (86-91). You will be able to make a very fast, reliable track car/weekend warrior for that much money.
Otherwise, add about $10000 to your budget for an FD. |
so a turbo II can be as fast as a 3rd gen rx7? what kind of engine can i swpp in? thanks

You will spend dozens/hundreds of hours reading and you can then ask intelligent questions. You said you wanted a weekend/track car and we're telling you that $15k will not get you close with an FD. It doesn't really matter if a Turbo II will be as fast as an FD or not, if you can't afford an FD. |
If you want a new motor just get a 20B and yull be set heh.
