First start question
ok so i am in the process of putting my car together, my questing is the first time i start it how should i do it?
car is going together with the fallowing Fresh 0 mile rebuild with a street port emissions block off kit larger SMIC with hard pipes stock fuel rails modded to fit 850cc primaries and stock 850 secondaries 3" downpipe 3" racing beat cat back maybe a 3" mid pipe hks intakes power fc now what should i do for starting, start one PFC or stock ecu? how should i prime the motor? anything else i should do? As with any start up on a new motor, pre-oiling is essential. You'll want to disable the fuel pump and/or ignition circuits to where you can crank the engine without it starting so you can build oil pressure.
As for the ECU question...did you run it with the PowerFC or is this a new addition? IF you were running it before, use it again. If this is new...I'd use the stock ECU. Otherwise...just make SURE you have it filled with oil and coolant (you won't believe how many times REALLY good engine builders forget this!) and give it a start. REMEMBER...start it and let it run...don't start it and shut it off immediately like some like to do. |
If you are running 4x850's, do not use the stock ECU. Use the PFC.

Pull the egi fuse and crank the car until oil pressure registers on the gauge. Once that is done, reinstall the egi fuse and prime the fuel system to test for leaks. Once that is done and you verify you have plenty of coolant, oil, ps fluid then fire here up. Push the car outside the garage for the first time you fire it up.
Then start the break in and enjoy the car. Dont start the car the first time then shut it right off unless there is a reason for it. Let it run for atleast 10-15mins if possible so you dont foul the plugs. |
Have a fire extinguisher on hand...

thanks for everything so far....the car was bought in boxes and 95% taken apart...it was taken apart as far as i know pretty close to stock and now going back together with the mods listed above.....my main concern was with the ecu and fuel for first time fire......i am pretty sure the stock ECU would have a hard time with the larger injectors and the port on the motor(atleast from what i was told) i just want to make sure i dont fill the thing with fuel and ruin something.
So should i get it all ready for the first fire, go into the PFC and scale the injectors or what...never really messed with a PFC to much. I want to be able to start it make sure it is good to go, maybe get a few miles on it and then tow it to get tuned. Seth |
remember there is a diagnostic connector to check for fuel leaks

I pulled my fuse and crank the car in order to get some oil pressure. The oil pressure light is currently on (as is the fuel warning lamp...which makes sense since its empty, and the coolant level...which makes LESS sense because I just filled it). Anyway, how long are you supposed to crank the engine until oil pressure starts reading? I cranked it for about 5 seconds, which felt really long, and nothing changed on the oil pressure gauge. Am I missing something vital that I'm overlooking?

Do I have to do this after 9 months of inactivity?
