First Impressions

Okay, we all had our first impression when we saw our first FD in person, which if you are here then it was a "wow" impression. But what I want to know is what was your first negative impression or thought about the first one you bought or the first time you were up close and personal enough that you could start passing judgement.

My first negative thought which came shortly after seeing one for the first time after reading and looking at pics and whatnot was....

"I thought it would be bigger".

:rlaugh:

SLOASFK 02-26-07 11:10 PM

negative? FD? you nuts?

vellj001 02-27-07 02:43 AM

My only negative impression was. It is dusty I need to clean and polish it to perfection and restore those 2 dents she has so the perfect lines are perfect again.

Honestly, I thought it looked kind of like a jellybean. I still liked it, but I thought my 90 Z was better looking. It didnt take too long for me to fall in love though. Proud owner of an R2 for 6 years now!

rexhvn 02-27-07 04:22 AM

I blew in my jocks :)

RE-Amemiya 02-27-07 06:58 AM

Negative....mine broke down every time i got it out from a shop, went to another came out and something else happened.

Maybe it was just a bad car, but that's the ONLY negative thing.

vellj001 02-27-07 06:59 AM

Yes you americans always see things big :) . I simply love it's size just as it is. In fact I don't think I would love it that much if it was any bigger.

gafu mazda 02-27-07 10:05 AM

Negative: Damn look at that ugly ass front bumper!Looks like the fawkin thing is a fish with 2 teeth!

Actually it still looks that way but new bumper is sitting in the garage waiting to be put on.

Second Negative:why are the cops staring at me?......figured that one out though.

Haha, couldnt have said it better myself. Even still when people ask what it is its weird to say a mazda cause you know theyre thinking something way more exotic. Old guys always look at me funny after I tell them what it is.

Neither could I. First time I ever saw one was when I was a kid in downtown Toronto. I was going to see the Joseph and the Multicolor coat or whatever it was called at the Theatre in Toronto and before getting in saw a yellow Ferrari 355 and a CYM zooming down the street my eyes were glued on the "yellow car".

Wanted one since then.

Years went by before I drove my first one which was a CYM actually but ended up not being able to buy it (getting a car loan for a 13 year old car as a student sucks). Then at a Subaru dealership I was on my way to buying an STI, but there was a VR FD with Fikse FM-10's (Didn't know what they were at the time) and I was saying to myself "damn those wheels are nice".

Took it for a drive and the stock FD was way faster than the STI, my girlfriend at the time kind of pryed me into getting the STI. But I returned two days later and left with the FD. That was my first experience.....

vkotis 02-27-07 11:31 AM

I said to myself: "damn, this motor only lasts 100k miles???"

Lack of steering wheel adjustment... :(

Ok that was my first too, then the motor:)

YellowJacket7 02-27-07 12:33 PM

My first though: holy sh*t!!! The picture did this thing no justice!

My first negative thought: where am I supposed to put anything while I am driving? There are no compartments or anything. Hell, even the ash tray barely holds change.

dabigesii 02-27-07 12:37 PM

My first thought when I saw it in person was :O wow. (Before I actually decided to consider buying one I only saw them in pictures) I was just amazed at how beautiful it was. When I first drove it...I was blown away at how fast it was, then I went over a bump and my first negative thought popped in my head "wtf is that clunking, my BMW is just as old and I don't have my fucking bushings clunking" I swear the FD is the only car I've experienced where such a mass amount of cars have clunking bushings its still something that boggles my mind today why. Other then that though all praise to the FD...I was hooked from the moment I layed eyes on it. The past 3 years have been great.

Ha, change? I never even have any spare change, I have to roll it up and use it to pay for parts!

I didn't actually see one in person until I went to buy mine, but I didn't like them for years because before I was even able to drive, I was playing GT, and the 7 looked really shitty in that game, and I just figured it wasn't a good looking car. It wasn't for a few years that I actually realized what they actually looked like. I didn't even recognize it in F&F.

jojodotcom 02-27-07 12:39 PM

^^ haha.. same here

First time seeing the FD was when I was watching a race on TV... there were porsches and BMW's, then comes this Silver FD... it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen~

Negative : Where is the cup holder??

sleeper7 02-27-07 02:34 PM

[QUOTE=jojodotcom Negative : Where is the cup holder??[/QUOTE]

one of my first negative thoughts..
the first Fu*k i dont fit in it..(after modifications i do. and comfortably..:)
first positive thought was the design of the motor. its still fasinating me 3 years later

rynberg 02-27-07 02:41 PM

My first negative impression was "Damn, this car has a lot of cheap plastic in it."

CarbonR1 02-27-07 04:18 PM

When I first saw my car on the trailor being unloaded to me, I was amazed at how beautiful the car was, even from the odd angle I saw it at. Then when I got in the car to drive it, I was amazed at how heavy the flywheel was and how easy it was to get the car to start moving (at the time I was used to a 9lb flywheel). Then I was amazed at how quiet the stock muffler system was, but now I am just surprised at how much cheap plastic is inside the car. (I'm worried to wear coats with metal buttons/zippers in fear of removing large chunks of the interior while driving)

RX72NR 02-27-07 05:02 PM

The first FD I saw was silver, being driven by the owner of a Mazda dealership. It was ten years later before I could afford one. The FD is a woman, unreliable, sexy, and always cleaning out your wallet! But I still love her.

dgeesaman 02-27-07 05:17 PM

(making a right hand turn) Shit, where'd the road go? Oh, damn rear-view mirror...

Dave
