finished my rebuild. got a question????
 

i just finished rebuilding my motor. after i got done i was turning the motor by hand and looking through the exhaust ports at the apex seals to see if they sprung ok. all of them looked ok but one is almost bottomed out and is hardly moving. yes all my parts are in spec, and the apex seals moved freely before assembly, and i know i put the springs in the right way.

so my question is..is this normal? is it something that will right itself during breakin, or is something wrong?

not sure but which way did you put the spring in. like isnt one end pink cause im going to put my springs in pretty soon and i dont want to mess anything up.

if you look at your apex seal, the side that goes into your rotor there are 2 little steps. those steps are what hold your springs in alignment.

how you put them in is...after you have your rotor housing around you first rotor take out your corner seal and then youre little corner piece of the apex seal (those corner pieces should face the rear of the engine). after you have those removed, slide the small spring in first ( with the two ends facing the apex seal) behind the apex seal and push it all the way down with a pick or something small. after it stops slide your big spring in facing the same direction and push it all the way down and you will feel a pop as the big spring aligns the smaller spring. then just put your little apex seal piece in and then you corner seal.

i would suggest getting a video they help alot. i watched mine about 4 times before i did mine

Did you use crazy glue, or something else to hold the corner seal in place when you were assembling it? If so, it's possible that the corner piece hasn't broken loose yet and the apex seal is just stuck.

If the e-shaft moves with ease and isn't making any scarping / grinding noises (besides a compresion release), I would put a little bit of MMO in the exhaust ports, and turn the e-shaft numerous times to see if will loosen.

yeah i have the video but he seems to miss little details like what color goes up and what not.

well, you're supposed to glue the apex seals together first.... that way the triangular piece can't be launched out by the spring tension and assembly is much easier.

as far as colors... that's for oil seal springs.

have you tried pressing on the seal through the exhaust port with your finger? maybe even some harder object like a wooden dowel would work if you are attempting to break the crazy glue. i would make sure it is moving freely before dropping in the motor.

to all thanks for the input. i have been pressing with my finger through the exhaust port and no i did not use any glue just vasaline to hold things together. i double and triple checked everything before i called it good. i guess ill try working it some more and maybe put the spark plugs in as i rotate it so i can have some compression so it will help seat things up. man i dont want to pull the motor apart again but i guess i will if i have to:( ill keep ya posted.

as for the pink mark on the atkins apex springs, as i installed each rotor i put the pink paint mark toward the back of the motor during assembly so i could visually see that i had put them the right direction. i think that is all the mark is for, correct me if im wrong on that.

so, you can feel all the others move in and out in their grooves except for this one... and you didn't use glue.

since you didn't glue the seals it's possible that the triangular piece popped out from the tension while you were putting on the iron. this would relieve the spring tension.

as far as the marks, it was a while ago when i put them in, but my springs seemed to go in either way... or i could be wrong.
