a few questions from a newbee! :o)

hi folks, new to the RX-7 and have a few questions.

Firstly everything looks ok but found one main problem. The emissions are very very high! Is there anything that is a usual cause of this (i.e a regular fault etc.. )

Also I am a little confused. I checked the O2 sesnor and it when warm at idle the reading is 0.9 - 1.0 V, and when I accelerate it drops to between 0 - 0.2V . According to the section in the manual this is the wrong way around ? or is this actually correct?

I also think the MAP sensor is not working correctly can this lead to the high emissions?

The last thing is about boost. I have fitted a simple boost gauge but not sure readinds ar correct? they seem a little low... on a standard set up what should I expect to see.. This may also have some bearing on the emissions problem...

Cheers for any info
:shocking:

Theres a FAQ at the top of the 3rd gen page, also the search function at the top is useful. Emissions have been discussed on this forum, you should be able to find what your looking for...

check you cat.
if your map sensor was bad the car would be hard to keep running.

but check the faqs thread like stated above.

People tell you to read the faq, not because the want to blow you off, but because you will gain a wealth of information from it. Don't expect the faq to be a comprehensive tutorial on the fd but a resource you can return to many times as your "education" progresses. Once you've read it, you may find an answer to your latest problem, but later when something else comes up (and it will) you'll recall reading something of it in the faq.

Read everything you can as often as you can. You may still need clarification but you won't be totally lost. From personal experience, its actually very enjoyable to go through the faqs and posts. As you gain experience its satisfying to read the advice of others that turns out to the the same advice you would have given.

What you should expect from the stock system boost wise is a 10-8-10 boost pattern, what you find will be determined by the condition of your system, vacuum at idle seems to fall any where between 13-18 hg. what you will find depends on the condition of your motor and the accuracy of your gauge (it's more or less just a reference point) so you can spot any changes. If the map sensor was unhooked or not working properly your motor would run very poorly and act very much like one that had a serious health issue.

hi there! ta for all the info and other links on this site! very good stuff... :)

Found a few things...
(1) I think after checking the O2 sensor that it is actually working correctly.
(2) Adjustment of the Air screw thingy on the underside of the throttle body reduced my CO2 a little
(3) the bit where the pipe connects to the MAP sensor was cracked Tempory fix improved running :icon_tup:
(4) Air pump has a leak! fixed this and now have the following readings :wallbash:

CO2 between 1.5 and 2.5 - HC 0 at 800 rpm
CO2 between 1.0 and 1.8 - HC 0 at 1100 rpm Approx.

Oh also added some of that injector cleaner stuff and the octane booster to the fuel... not sure if that actually does anything but thought i would try it.

As for the boost pressure.. well.. not sure exaclty but the vacuum presuure is approx 20 hg at idle ( i think) and when driving the boost on the gauge reads less than 0.5???? will have to check gauge for the actual units, but I am thinking this is a little on the low side.

Ta for all the info so far.
:)

iv heard not to put any boosters in the car not sure why but maybe something to do with maybe deteriorating the seals? or something

fuel additive is fine...use techron the real stuff if you want to actually have any chance at improving fuel injectors....problem with additives is used too often they will dry out the injector o-rings but this is like using it all the time
