Looks good Chaos. I've got a Kirk bar in my car too and I'll soon try to modify the plastic trim pieces to fit (jack bins). Have you noticed you can now hear every gravel you run over because the jack cover panels served to insulate the road noise?

Looking very good.

Little 7 07-23-03 08:38 PM

Nice roll bar. Where it make?

xchaos 07-23-03 09:01 PM

Yep, it is a little louder for sure without those. I will be working on getting them back in as well. Also the covers over the shock towers don't quite fit back in either.

www.kirkracing.com makes these.

Thanks for the comments.

Looks mean in this picture, I like that black stealth look.

Chaos,

How much clearance do you have between the front mounting points for the roll bar and the storage bins? I can't tell if my Kirk bar was designed for use with or without the storage bins. And I want my storage bins back  . The back of the car looks too naked with all that stuff missing. Thanks.

nice, it looks really clean even with the bar, how much did the bar cost?

xchaos 07-23-03 09:22 PM

The bins have plenty of clearance to open, but the seat back bar goes just in front of them. The bar is a VERY snug fit, you wouldn't be able to move it back to mount in the bins. They do have the option to order the bar like that though, which you must have.

When I ordered it, I thought the back supports were to mount on front of the shock towers. Maybe I was wrong, but I like it this way better anyway.

Definitly going to have to mod the covers, I don't like it without either.

Thanks

Its only like $350 plus shipping. Hell of a deal if you ask me! This thing is well made!

911GT2 07-23-03 09:28 PM

Looks good xchaos. Is it unbearably loud? How about compared to an exhaust, worse or better?

As far as posting pics in the message, thats not too tough. You just need to host them somewhere. I host mine at www.fotopic.net I just upload the pics there (it's FREE!) Basically, you open the pic and click the little full size thing in the bottom right corner, and then copy that URL. Go into a message, click the little IMG thing (under the Bold, Italics, and Underline buttons) paste the URL there, and voila, pic appears.

My site is www.jeffrx7.fotopic.net You can try linking to one of my pics in the Test Area 51 section just to see how it works if you wanna.

Looks great, I am going to have to put in a roll cage soon to be legal at the track when I start hitting faster times.

JediPimpin 07-23-03 09:51 PM

Chaos, if you have a chance could you take a picture of the bins and the two mounting points behind the seats? I'm starting to get that feeling that you're right since it looks like the bins are one whole piece. You don't think i'd be able to squeeze them in from behind do you?

Chris

xchaos 07-23-03 10:28 PM

911GT2,

No, its not alot louder. I think you hardly be able to tell the difference once the covers get back in place. Thanks for the tip on the pics, was just missing the hosting part. I suppose that they are technically hosted here so maybe I can link the attachment.

JediPimpin,

I'll get you a pic in a bit of the mounting and bin area shortly.

JadedX 07-23-03 10:34 PM

Thank you so much chaos. Your picture confirmed my fears. The Kirk bar I have requires the deletion of the bins. So much for bins. Any ideas of what to cover the space with? I can't stand looking at the bare bottom.

BTW, your bar looks excellent in your car. Black on black beauty =).

Yep. $60 for shipping to commercial address, about double that to residence.

tookwik 07-23-03 11:07 PM

how much reclining space did the driver loose?

xchaos 07-24-03 10:00 AM

tookwik,

You lose maybe the last 2 notches in seat travel and a little bit of recline. I hardly noticed it and usually sit in this position when on the track. On the street, I would recline a tad more, but no big deal. If you were taller than I, might notice it more (I'm 5'10").

Today was the first time I really took it out and pushed the car since I made a few changes. I installed RB sways and the roll bar. I did a run down a quiet road with lots of curves and I think the bar makes a HUGE difference in how solid the car feels. The road has lots of dips, off-camber turns, and the pavement is quite rough in areas. It really seems to help the suspension do its job ALOT better. In fact the car is QUIETER because the unibody doesn't seem to move at all!

I can't tell you how much better it is, although probably not for the everyday driver. Not exactly the safest thing to have behind your head without a helmet. It would take a pretty good sized wreck to knock you out of your seat to hit it though.

You are correct sir :D once you have the pic uploaded - edit the post to add the image tags and insert the link - right click on the attachment link and save the short cut, select edit post, hit the IMG button then past the shortcut (link) into the img tag, save the changes and presto the pic appears in the post.

You can also upload pics to the FORUM PHOTO GALLERY and use the img tag to link to them. (you get to the gallery in the dropdown at the top of the page that says 'Advertise Here')

WHOA I JUST DISCOVERED THE ADDED "GALLERY" BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM OF EVERY POST!
