Feed In-tank fuel collector Help needed...
Hey guys,
just wanted to install the feed in-tank fuel collector i have lying around for quite some time, unfortunately i have no instruction,s or anything with it , just the 2 parts of the case. seems to be clear that he covers the fuel pump, but i'm wonderung how to mount it in the fuel tank, if anyone have instructions (i think feed will have at least a sheet with it to explain how to mount) or pictures, feel free to post them... :) Thanks in advance... |

...i had to revive this thread as i don't get any response from feed neither get any useful feedback from other guys who bought that.
I guess the accompanying manual includes any pics who would make clear hwo to install the collector. I'm also missing the included 3 bolts and cable (found a pic at rhdjapan that shows these), but with the help of the manual i'm surely find a substitute for these... |

Hey mate,
I have installed the collector myself and have the instructions here in Japanese. It isnt too hard to work out if you have the pictures to go off. On the upside it works really well. I installed it about 6 months ago so should be able remember if you have any questions with it. Rhys |

...i will have a look at teh manual and the fuel pump again and then get back to you, if anythings uncertain for me. at this moment, just 2 questions. I seems that the sensor for the fuel level indicator is mounted on the outside (here the 3 screws are needed for) ,showing in pictures 1-4. What is mentioned in pic 5? I guess this i a part from the fuel tank that has to be removed? and i'm not sure what pics 6 and 7 describing - seems to be something with the cable. I can only guess it's used to hold the 2 parts of the collector together...? |

yeh the sensor goes on the outside.
Pic 5 is a bit of metal that the existing pump sits in. You need to get rid of it. Pic 6 I think is dont forget to plug in the sensor for the fuel gauge. Pic 7 is showing that you need to cable tie the collector to the intank baffles. In my car the baffles themselves wernt exactly solidly tied down so I added a few extra cable ties. I know RHDJapan said they would translate the instructions for me if I asked, I never did though as once you look at the tank you can sorta see whats meant to happen. Rhys |
how effective are these? Were you happy with the results? Can you avoid running a swirl pot and a external pump when using one of these?

I am very happy with mine. I went from surging badly with anything under half a tank on fast left handers to, having no surge problems at all. Even ran the car right to empty and no surge.

I know this is bumping an old thread, but since I’m going through this now I figured I’d update with a verbal recap of how I’ve interpreted the steps so far. My kit didn’t come with the drillbit or the steel tie wire, so I’m currently stuck till I can run out tomorrow after work. The first steps are around removing the pump setup: disconnect battery drain the fuel tank (no need to raise, the 17mm drain bolt is pretty accessible) take off fuel pump access cover (~5 screw and two electrical connectors on the bottom side) undo 10mm bolts undo fuel feed and return hose carefully i also undid the passenger side hose that was held by the 10mm so I could get it out of the way better then unscrew the cover bolts and set aside carefully remove the pump, ensuring not to bend the level sender over your catch pan, flip the pump upside down to prevent a mess of what’s still in the pump & lines Undo the screw holding on the sender and low fuel sensor, and unplug the low sensor’s connector there are two indents on this unit - drill them out with either a 4mm or 5mm drill bit (instructions sound like it comes with a 4mm, but mention 5mm during drilling. Essentially make sure the FEED provided screws will go through it) HOW I UNDERSTOOD IT: bent the low fuel sensor so that it can wrap around the fuel collect when mounted on the top half. Keep it as close as possible while doing this. Mount the provided ground wire with the fuel level sender and fuel light sensor to the top half of the collector with the provided screws Break apart the collector into its two halves and pay attention to how they assemble Painters tape the sharp edges around the fuel access cover to save your arms slip the lower half into the tank slip the top half into the tank and attach it to the lower half this is where I’m currently at, but what I expect to come next is... tie the collector to the sump (best spot I see on my 93 is the frontward-facing hole of the sump) slip the pump in partially and connect the ground wire to where the sender use to be mounted with the oem screw AND the electrical connector for the low fuel’s power feed visually scan that things look correct and fit reassemble optional; put things back loosely pull fuel fuse connect battery see if low fuel light is on / put things together properly pour a couple gallons in connect battery see if fuel level moves correctly hopefully this is correct and helpful for anyone else considering this option. I’ll try to remember to update once I’m done. update: it went just as I expected. I too added extra tie downs for a loose baffle at the rear. For tying down the collector I ran wire under the oem sump and up to the top of the collect, making s full loop, and I added only at the front end of the car using the hole in the sump. I intend to open the tank back up after some aggressive driving to see how my ties are holding up. |

reviving this good'ol thread again 😁 I'm about to start installing mine, it seems a little bit tricky and I'm very happy to find this thread. Thx a lot to you ConSynX for all the informations. I would also enjoy photos of how you all tied the collector, if anyone can share some it would be pretty cool. Did you use regular inox wire? Is anyone using this with an aftermarket pump hanger? I have a gen1 CJM hanger. I bought this in 2017 but didn't consider the extra space the second pump takes up, so it's been sitting on the shelf. Now I'm going back to one pump and figured I'd give this a shot, but in the hopes of making disassembly and reassembly easier, I guess I need to add another connector inside for the level wire, ground, and thermistor wire.
Just wondering if anyone else needed to address that and how. |
I finally got around to installing this. I did install the connectors to make assembly and disassembly easier.
I think I'm going to have a major issue though. I got the box pushed back as far as possible, but I think it's still too far forward and causing the filter sock to interfere with the flapper door. What I might have to do is move the pump to the other hole, hopefully that will get it far enough from the door. I had a straight fitting on the hose and it felt like the hose was hitting the box, so I added a 90 to divert it. |

Yeah but they're not great. Basically I took 0.032 safety wire and ran it from each corner of the stock plastic tank that has a loop up to each corner of the FEED box. I did twists with the safety wire pliers between the stock plastic box and the FEED box, then ran it through the holes on the FEED box and did some more twists. Actually I only did three of the corners because it was enough and the extra was overkill, and also because the one on the right rear of the box I did too many twists between the boxes and couldn't get it tight enough after that, so it would have made it worse if I had done the left rear corner. The front two corners are done as well, so it's in there pretty well. It certainly isn't going anywhere.
I assembled mine a bit differently as well. I ran the safety wire through the slots on the stock plastic box first because I figured it would be easier. I dropped the bottom half in first. Then I tried dropping in the top half with the fuel level sensor mounted already, but this proved difficult, I believe at least in part because of the safety wire I had already installed and I had them coming out through the top so they wouldn't drop into the fuel I didn't drain from the tank lol. So I removed the level sensor, dropped the top half in, reinstalled the level sensor, then tried to maneuver the bottom half back in place and put the top on. I was eventually able to get it with that method, but it was difficult. Then I twisted the wires (probably should have done that with only the bottom half in), and installed the hanger, which is much easier without having the work the level sensor around. I already changed the pump to the other hole and moved the return line to the fuel line bulkhead for the primary pump. |
