Just got my T04R kit / rebuilt motor back. Went through the break in period and changed the oil. Out warming it up, slowly increasing the RPM and on a full throttle 2nd gear pull, started getting vibration through the shifter. The vibration is present in neutral, with the clutch in and out. Car drove really rough on the way home, but the clutch worked fine. Car motor idles fine, but there is still some vibration through the stick.
Was looking for the things to check on before I drag it down to the tranny repair facility.
Man this car is getting expensive...

I'm not sure you look at your tranny first. The vibration could be a few things. It could be motor mounts. I think it could also be some looseness in the rear end suspension...........dif. mounts?
I had a real bad vibration through the shifter, and it was my motor mounts. I also noticed a big reduction in shifter movement when I did solid dif. mounts.
Don't stress out too much yet. You might actually get off a little easier than you think on this one.

I would lean more towards motor mounts, if you have a single a torque brace is a great investment... I kind of doubt it is your rear end, especially seeing that you said it does it with the clutch in or out

Especially since he just had a new motor put in.

Its pretty easy to "tear" those motor mounts when intalling or removing the engine.

A streetported motor will shake a little more at idle

And yes I would check the motor mounts. You can get away with using bad motor mounts with an engine tq brace as mentioned above.

Rick at Rotary Performance put in new motor mounts when the engine went back in. I am running the solid torque brace from RX-7 Store. It was running fine for the whole break in period, then something let loose or failed. Hmmm, Thanks for the help guys, I should get underneath it this afternoon, anything I can visually inspect?

As in like clutch/flywheel counterweight? Does this mean clutch rebuild?

What does the counter wieght do, and where is it?

is it a black FD with twinturbo sticker at the back? i saw the car in rick's shop. i m gettin my motor rebuild by ricks too

Yeah, that's the one, although since I bought the car, I have been dreaming of the day I can get rid of those stickers. Rick was great and is helping me get to the bottom of this, but I am 300 miles away in NV.

If you have new motor mounts, I would check the motor mount nuts and bolts to be sure they have not backed off. If they were not adequately tightened initially they may have loosened up over the time you have been breaking the beast in.

i remember a guy using a torque engine brace and had bad motor mounts, it ripped a chunk of metal out of the side of his car where the torque engine brace bolted to... just get new motor mounts

i though he has a new motor mount on it...call ricks and see what he say. ususally he inspect all the parts before he put it back in.

Well, got the dreaded call from Rick this morning. Bottom line, motor is shot. Rotor bearing trashed, rear rotor and all three apex seals gone. No idea yet why or what caused the lack of oil that led to its destruction. He said he has never seen anything like it. Still getting good oil pressure, but evidently not to the engine. He said he needs a few days to try and get to the bottom of this. Guess no RX-7 for the holiday trip home...

Well sorry to hear about your motor. Thats one strange problem you have ther. Oil pressure is good but the engine got messed up because of lack of oil.

How do you know that your oil pressure was ok? Hope it all gets worked out.:)

Sounds like a clogged oil line... maybe some of the sealant used for the water jacket got in there .. (Shot in the dark)
