Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard the Spirit R turbos give an instant 270-280 hp. for our U.S. spec. FD3S. Or is itonly for the Spirit R in Japan? Who in here has a +99 spec. turbos. When putting it on was it a Plug and play? or need customizing to make fitting? What others part does it need to make if fit if necessary?

They'll give an "instant" 270-280 hp if you have all the other changes Mazda made in conjunction with them, like no pre-cat (downpipe), a free-er flowing intake, efini y-pipe, and an ECU set to deliver 1-2 psi higher than the 93.

For the $3k investment, you could buy a downpipe, catback, a GOOD intake, and intercooler, and a re-chipped ECU and make more like 280 AT THE WHEELS, not the flywheel.

yes - not worth the investment, I don't think - you can squeeze more out of your stock turbos with a PowerFC tuned, better fuel delivery, intercooler, etc (as ptrhahn said)...then save up and buy a single turbo.

I'm not even saying that they aren't a good investment, depending on your circumstances.

I just don't believe the notion that you could bolt these turbos on to your otherwise stock US-spec 93-95 car and intantly have the 280 flywheel horsepower that the later japanese models had.

Nor can you assume that, with whatever mods you DO have, you can just patently add the difference between 255 and 280 (25 hp) to you your supposed total just because thats the difference between the 93 and 99 cars.

These turbos do not just add 25 hp to whatever you slap them on.

I was planning on putting on the 99 spec. turbo over this weekened and was just wandering.

BTW will the 99 spec. fit right on or do I need others parts such as from the Spirit R to make it fit?

might want to get an efini y-pipe, and definitely some ECU management (seriously - if you don't you will blow your motor - this isn't shit you dick around with). It should bolt on.
