If Jim wanted a BMW...he'd probably go out and buy one :)

and how bout you Nick...see something missing...Dont F around child...

I guess I'm growing tired of you HS boys...

I am no serious considering closing this thread..into Jim PM's me and has something to add...

sinfestboy 05-19-02 06:48 PM

well, considering that I already have 6 grand saved up, and I'm gonna be getting an FD, I think its fair for me to atleast sau what I like. and anyways, I didnt say to make them just like a BMW , I said they should be glass like the BMW.
and if they turn out ok, I definatly will be buying a pair.

It might not be a bad idea. :)

I don't think anyone has yet grasped what I mean when I say an "OEM style" headlight. Everyone's trying to fit Hella 90mm lights and God knows what else from other existing cars into pods made for the RX-7, and I'm talking about a professionally designed, ground-up OEM-quality light with components that may not even exist yet, not a cobbled-together solution like what is presently available. Some people are talking about reverse pop-up lights with the rear of the light raising, and of course they'd be the same people complaining about the cost if such a thing were implemented, but what's new? :)

It's obvious that no one knows how many projects I have going on at the moment, and not all of them revolving around the RX-7 or even my RX-7. This is in addition to the normal demands of work and so forth. I do this as a hobby, not as a profession, and when I don't have the time to spend on a single project, the completion takes longer, obviously. The people and companies I work with are also very busy with projects that are far more important, at least monetarily, than what I'm working on. When I'm pulling in favors, I don't ride people as hard as I would if it were only money on the line. When some of those favors mean that I get design input from some of the key people in the industry, I don't ride them at all. There's no percentage in it, no gain.

I believe I know very well what people are looking for, and I think it goes without saying that my own high standards probably ensure that everyone will be happy with the final result, should it come to fruition, and should I decide to share it with everyone. That still is the plan, and my silence doesn't mean that no progress is being made. However, Rome wasn't built in a day, and all that, and some who aren't as experienced with R&D and creation of a component from the ground up apparently expect frequent updates as if they were vested shareholders... even when they don't have FDs to install them on. :)

So if you want to close down the thread, that's fine with me. When I have something to show everyone, we can make a new sticky and start over. I expect that I'll have a final version on my car in the June-July timeframe, all things considered.

Hmmm.... That sounds overly optimistic. You don't mean 2003, do you? ;)

sinfestboy 05-21-02 10:26 PM

I understand what you mean, I am just suggesting a style.

they have the same style on the new lambo...... and they are beautiful in person (see post in lounge)

Jimlab I'm interested but let 's see a model prototype.

MPython 05-23-02 03:49 PM

I'm interested also. I've got your bushings (really rough ride, btw!), might as well get other cool things you make :).

It isnt just you, it does kinda look like the Spy vs. Spy, sweet ride to. I'd buy that for a dollar.

1bad180sx 05-27-02 10:08 AM

Exactly, Spy vs Spy.

beyondlimitz 05-28-02 10:39 AM

...007 new jag with sleek lights...if suggestions still needed

http://home.earthlink.net/~beyondlimitz/007jagatE3.jpg

i believe it's a aston martin...i might be wrong

but i thought it would fit in this thread...so how's the progress in the sleek lights?

NickSimcheck 05-29-02 11:56 AM

Ok I'm starting to agree with Johnny on closing the thread. Is it possible for just Jim to post updates and so on?

enuttage 05-29-02 12:14 PM

Why don't you just "unstick" it. Perhaps it'll sink into oblivion like most posts. The sticky is encouraging less than helpful posts (like mine ;)).

Jim can post when he's good and ready, as he's indicated he will. And if he wants to let it die without responses, then he can (though I guess he can do the same now if he wants also??). If it's interesting enough it'll stay around by itself. His V-8 thread surely has.

Just my input.

You know those Aston Martin lights look a lot like the Hella lights people are using in the rotary extreme is using in his kit.

hey Jim,
If you need some 3d concept work done i have been modeling a 3rd gen and i may have some extra time to work in your design if it would help you.

Let me know,
`scott

shaun.sheldrake 06-05-02 04:24 PM

The concept looks fantastic, I would love to get the 1st set into NZ ... the exchange rate will be painful but well worth it.

supa18stylin 06-06-02 11:01 AM

good idea i would never think of getting oem lights sweet.
i hope it works out for you!!!

Turbo_F1 06-09-02 10:14 PM

Any new pics of the project or was it scraped?

jimlab 06-10-02 03:58 AM

Not scrapped (or scraped, for that matter). Just "on the down low" because I'm taking steps to protect the finished product from people who would be unscrupulous enough to copy it...

I'm also waiting on two different prototypes, and like I've said before (and will continue to point out) I have a life besides making a light kit for the RX-7 that consumes a fair portion of my waking hours... :)

Hey Jim,

Tim here from Phoenix. We've communicated a few times regarding your V8 ride and Bill Hagan. Looking forward to seeing the final light kit. Several Gen 3 owners here in Phoenix are considering light kits so if you could get something put together in the next 6 months we may be very interested. Sure would love to see your car at SevenStock 5 in September. Good luck on the final kit! Take care

I second that!

I can't waot to see the lights too.

2ml2us2 06-12-02 03:29 PM

You have my interest. I understand the time frame, so keep the posts coming. Th "Baby Supra" look is acceptable, but I lean towards the look on the RX7 from Attain as more pleasing. That is my opinion for now. More examples will alter the perspective I am sure.
Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm.
