FD Security.
 

I've done searches and read alot of info about the FD and security. Mostly post entitled "My FD has just been stolen!". Then they go on to say, I had an alarm system (2 sometimes) , the club and etc. This brought me to look at my FD and my past Fd's and how easily they could have been stolen. I've looked into it all ..Alarms with remote sensors, kills switches, and a host of other anti theft units. When it dawned on me.. If I remove the wheel then nothing but a tow truck will move my car.

Thats when I began looking into, after market steering wheels and after market steering release HUB's.

NRG quick release with short hub maybe. Should also get a locking mechanism that NRG offers, I hear its inpenetrable.

worth looking. i have one of these in my car that i bought long time ago. I use it to lock my gas pedal whenever i have to park at a shady neighborhood. I do have alarm on my car, but imo, alarm are only good for unlocking doors ....

+ my quick release on my momo steering wheel + worned out clutch switch (which makes my car extra hard to start) = 4 times the protection :cylonA:

around here they just drag em onto a flatbed and take off, guys find their shit with rubber marks for 50ft till they got it loaded up and they take off, no security but a locked garage fixes that

True, if they really want your car, a removable steering wheel wont stop them. The best security is to stop blowing your paycheck on car parts now, buy a home with a garage in a decent neighborhood and then have fun with your car!

I have been looking at different things for security. I live in a decent area & have a garage, but I am always afraid to take the car to certian places! I know it will most likely be ok, but if it were to get stolen I would be pissed with myself because I really don't NEED to take it there....that is what the Jeep is for I guess! My fiance just thinks I am paranoid - LOL!

That Is a good idea tho kinda looks like the club, but in a different location. When you put is on is there alot of play or is it pretty stiff?

That is for criminals that case cars i.e; You live in a shady neighborhood and park on the curb, in that same spot every night and everyday. I'm talking about security for day to day parking, such as shopping plaza's, eat stops, and movie theaters.

after its engaged, its pretty stiff. the mechanics of it is similar to the club, but the design may actually work because aside from the material made, it locks any one of the pedal that u want, keeping it from moving at all in any direction.

There's also another thread, i can't recall the name, of another satellite tracking device company similar to Lo Jack, but with more features. Me not remembering isn't helping at all, but maybe someone else can help link it. :P

Yeah.. nothing can protect against a uber pro + tow truck... (i've heard of stories w/ lo jack getting removed either before the owner reported it, or before the cops were able to track it, thus never got it recovered. Was a integra tho, not a FD).. those occasions u just can't do much except hoping ur insurance will give u reasonable amount of $ for ur car.

yeah, the club hasn't worked not long since its invention. fastest way around the club is the cut the steering wheel w/ a bolt cutter or something heavy duty and slide the club off ...

but pedals are metal, and if they're cut or removed.... umm... u get the idea

I've also heard rumors before about how the club could be cracked if u pour liquid nitrogen on it and hit it w/ a hammer. but i have no facts to back that up.

the GPS security system i was thinking of is in that thread. called GeoTracker. Also GOODFELLAS had a really good tip in that thread about lowering your rev limiter on PFC to 500 or so. I've tried that and its great. the only downside is scrolling through the rpm is a bit tedius when ur holding the button down and it changes the rev limiter setting slower than a turtle.

of course u cant protect yourself from a tow truck in most cases but if your worried about somebody driving off in your car disable it.......
i just pull the egi fuse under the hood........theres no way she starting with out that

The only problem with lowering the rev limit is that my car will actually sit at 500rpm. runs like ass, but it will run.

and if a thief wants your car bad enough nothing you can strap to it will stop them.

You can always install a bomb and detonate it when you notice your car has been stolen.

under your hood......where your positive cable connect to your battery.....there is a fuse box.....the middle fuse is marked egi on the lid......pull this fuse out...it disables your fuel injectors....hence the engine will crank over but will get no fuel 2 start.....its the same fuse u pull to deflood the engine

I agree with that statement but as I mentioned before this is the short term parking which imo is the worst stage for leaving your car to thieves. But the original question has'nt been answered ; What other after market steering Hubs are good for short term theft deturent ?

It won't stop your car from being stolen ;) but then i suppose at least you know you'll never see the parts at a swap meet.

i got clifford alarm http://www.clifford.com/Products/Pro...?ProductID=715 with few extra goodies like gps tracking and remote start, it calls my mobile phone if someone tryes to steal it.

Using aftermarket steering wheels....useless for "security".
All it takes is a set of locking pliers to steer.
IMO, you're better off w/ kill switches.

another thing you could do is a fuel cutoff switch. my dad used to have a fully built '67 Firebird. he kept it covered at all times, and had a lock on the cover's chain. someone tried to steal it, they cut the cover around the chain, broke the window, and tried to hotwire it. the only thing they didn't realize is that there was a cutoff switch for the fuel pump. it was pretty well hidden, though kinda easy to get to if you knew where it was. our neighbor came home and saw the guy and chased him off (dumb ass dropped some business cards and was visited at work the next day by the police! hahahaha).

i've got a killswitch on my FD, with a removable key, and i'll be putting in a cutoff switch for the fuel pump. other than that... locked garage in a house with an alarm ;) i'll eventually get an alarm for it, but for now it should be fine.

I don't recommend any brand due to their current designs.
All are designed for race purposes...not security purposes.

I've been toying around w/ this idea for some time...
just haven't done anything about it.
