FD RX7 Type R 2.6 turbo as 1.3 litre??? + insurance?
 

Can anyone like explain what is meant by that?. I'm currently looking at buying an FD but lately I been seeing a lot of supposedly 2.6 turbo's but classed as 1300cc engine? How does that work? and what is the bhp that's coming out of it in comparison to the usual 2000+ cc? I don't quite understand the concept with that and it's really confusing me wether it's worth me buying the supposedly 2.6 but 1300cc to save on insurance?. But I don't want a watered down version of the "pocket rocket" FD. So if anyone can kidly explain what this supposedly 1300cc is all about please.


+ also can anyone tell me how much would insurance I would expect to be paying out for a 22 year old but 0 years no claims bonus?. If anyone in uk that's an FD owner could help me with some average examples of that it would be great help. Money is not too much of an issue tho obviously the more I can save the better.

All FD's have the same engine, so there's no small engine "watered down" version, they all have the same 1300cc, 255hp engine (excepting the later cars, 1999+ which had more). If you call it a 2 stroke it's a 2600cc, if you call it a 4 stroke it's a 1300cc. This has been argued time and time again, there's no one "right" answer, but Mazda calls it a 1300cc.

So what's the difference of 2 stroke and 4 stroke? So theoretically say if I bought one. Would I be registering the insurance under 1300cc or 2600cc??

I would use the Manufacture specs, 1300cc.

there is a right and wrong answer. the rotary isn't a 2 stroke, it has 4 distinct cycles.

It's a 1300CC displacement motor, 2600CC is the capacity. if you want to be technical, a 2600cc piston motor is technically a 1300cc.

Forget insurance import duties help in PAkistan

We have flat rate duties on cars below 1.8 litres in PAkistan. The FD is classified as 2600 cc in the UK so to import to Pakistan it is always best to get a car from Japan .. FD classification 1308 cc ( 654X2 ) duty 7000 US dollars.

If we import from the UK the same FD would have a duty of 20000 US Dollars.

Personally I would list it as a 1.3l (thats what I plan on doing when I get out there) to save on the road tax. I will see about getting in contact with some of the people I know in England who have the RX-8 and RX-7 to see what they have come across as far as the rules are concerned.. I am pretty sure you can list it as a 1.3l though

Cheers man. Because the heavy engine work I'll be doing in the garage with my next project car I need to save as much as I can and being able to insure as 1.3 compared to a 2.0 would go a long way in difference if possible.
