FD rx7 front end
 

Hey,

I have a 240sx but... I am doing some chop work on the front end... and i thought to myself.. instead of sticking to the mcpherson strut setup.. why not go a-arm... the skylines are a-arm setups but heavy.... and fd rx7 have a brilliant front suspension setup.

Does it come on a front subframe or how is the front suspension on an FD. Been googling and all I'm finding is rear subframe pix which Im not interested in...

How many arms & parts there are etc... and how much would a stock setup cost? My fab guy could get that going in my car :)

I know some of you will say just get an fd rx7, but ive already built and rebuilt this car so many times, i have no intent to venture into another car even though I LOVE FD rx7s... but going all from scratch no :(

I think it is a TON of work but to answer some of your questions.

The FD front subframe mounts the lower control arms and steering rack. The upper control arms are mounted on the body as well as the upper shock mount. To get the FD front suspension geometry you'd need to replicate the upper control arm and shock mouning position accurately as well as making all those new mounting points as stiff as the FD.

The rear suspsion is easier as you might have found out, it all mounts to the rear subframe.

at that point man...just buy an FD lol

you're going to end up spending a lot more than you would to just get a proper FD...

sorry to destroy your dreams, but this project is just stupid.

I'm not saying that it can't be done, but a suspension system is a highly complicated system. The front and rear suspension work together, they have to be designed together and they have to be setup regarding each other. Thinks like motion ratio, roll center height, roll center beaviour, anti-squad, anti-dive, bumpsteer, camber gain over bump etc. etc. have to be matched front and rear.

That's like using an sr20 block with a 1jz head ;)

Reading your question, I don't think that you have the needed knowledge, 3D measuring machine and software for this job.

Too Much work. And money. In the end if you do get it done, its in a 240. Like why??

Get an fd and do it right man.

I am sorry some of you don't believe my endeverous are worthwhile. I have decided to stick to the mcpherson setup as the dent sport 240rs maxi has. You can youtube it and just see what it can do and it'll make some of you not as insulting :)

I am a car guy, I don't care about brand or name, its metal and more metal made into motion.

I have found though that the rx8 front cradle/suspension setup is transferable much easier. Been done on a few cars, but then I would have to get new race shocks and heim arms etc.... which I already have for the mcpherson setup. For now I'll stick with the similar setup the dgs 240rs has.
