FD radio repair
 

Combing through all the threads, I have contacted every place people have posted for head unit repair, and all of them will no longer touch radios they do not have repaid parts for.

Anyone have any diamond in the rough radio repair places? Seems like a desert out there.

What radio are you trying to repair - base, Bose?

You may have to try and find a good used one. You're in a niche market here - most 90's cars are in a junkyard now and even if they are running they typically have aftermarket stereos at this point.

There's just zero demand for that sort of work unfortunately.

There is a double-DIN stock stereo that was in the Protege I believe that is similar to the OEM stereo Mazda used in Japan in later models. Supposedly it's not hard to install and is somewhat more modern but still looks right in the car. I have also used a CD player stereo out of a 626 that was stock looking, only downside was the screen was green and not amber.

FYI you probably don't want a JDM stereo. In Japan they use very different FM frequencies so you couldn't tune in anything but the super low (like 88.1) FM channels. I think they are like 65-89 MHz or something in that range. No sense buying a pricey OEM stereo from Japan to get disappointed.
