FD Pricing Question
All -
I'm looking at buying a 1993 RX-7 R1, and I'm doing some research to deterimine how much I should be paying. It's got 89k on the chassis and 23k on a new engine, and a few basic mods like in intake, light pulleys, Pettit turbos, downpipe, exhaust, and a Centerforce clutch. The car has a Mazdaspeed front end and side skirts, and is in exceptionally good cosmetic condition with new paint. Based on browing through some of the cars for sale and looking at NADA and Kelley, it seems like a good condition 93 with relatively low mileage (around 60K) goes for around 14k. Does that sound about right? My feeling is that with the mods this car has on it and the very good condition, about 16-17K would be a fair price. Does that sound about right? Does the fact that its an R1 up the value much? I don't want to lowball the guy, but I don't want to pay too much either. :) Thoughts? Thanks, - Brian Geddes |
Being an R1 does up it a little, as well as the mods. 16k sounds ok I suppose, im not to sure how much 7's value goes up with mods....oh well! Get it and have fun!

16-17 sounds a bit high. check out autotrader.com, and you'll get a good feel for what you should get for $17K...

Forgot to mention - new synchros, and expensive wheels (18" Racinghart C5's) and a pretty nice custom stereo included.

oh, i guess that would add to the price -
depends on how much of your money you want to make you go fast, and how much to make you look good. i dunno, just check autotrader, and know that no matter what, a month after you buy, a better deal will come along. but you've gotta lay down the cash for something, or you'll always be walking... |
Brian,
pm me with your email address and I'll send you a spreadsheet with EBAY completed sales for 93-95 RX-7s...almost all 5 speeds....I think those Racing Harts sell for over $2,000 new |
Actually, the car seems pretty comprable to the other cars around its asking price (18-20k) in a nationwide Autotrader search....

16k, 17k sounds good with the setup you mentioned. But yeah, just like everyone else said, compare prices on both ebay and autotrader. Make sure you also take other things into consideration like... is the current owner the original owner? 2nd owner? If it's been passed down to many times, you might want to take a second look...

I would certainly pay 16 to 17 K with those mods (are the vac and boost lines silicone?). However that is only after compression and boost are confirmed good. Its a fair price for a good R-1 with basic mods and good motor and turbos. Its not a good price if you have to dump a crapload of money into it within a couple months of your purchase. Good luck, do some searches on reliability mods.

just remember, a new civic can run you over 20k... if you dont think this is worth it... dont buy it
personnaly, i think it sounds good if the car is in good running condition, hell it only cost about 5k for a brand new engine+turbo/s which will pull low 13's or even 12's in the 1/4 mile which is really not that much if you consider how much other cars cost... take for example a Vette, have you any idea how much a 9peice CF kit for the engine bay cost??? try 2k or more!!! and i know of someone which has actually bought this kit |

ebay is by no means a standard....If you try to sell your car on ebay you will be giving away 2 or 3 grand....prices on ebay are the cheapest you will find for anything...not just 7s.

Just trying to give the guy some data points, with autotrader you only know what the asking price is , not the actual sales price...as far as Kelly BlueBook...I'm not certain how they gather their data, doubt if they have actual private party sales and if they do it's probably from each state's department of revenue database, which is probably skewed due to individuals not recording the actual sales price to save on taxes...I would assume that KBB data is attained from dealer sales that tend to be typically higher, since they are willing to finance older cars.
to repeat the EBAY sales were only provided to give some data |
Todays Fd3s are priced reasonably fair .. Considering how much money your gonna be paying to maintain it..
|
$15k
