FD overheated=toast! :(

i was driving down the highway last nightwith some friends. Wasnt paying attention to my gauges and pfc commander. by the time I looked down it was at 131 C. So I pulled over and shut off the car. Let it cool down to norm temps and went to start it. Now it wont start back up. I have 5-6 of my friends pushing it to try to pop start it. everytime I would go to let the clutch out it would smoke really bad and just die. The rpms wouldnt come on. This sucks.

SayNoToPistons 09-08-06 11:59 AM

Ok.

MattB 09-08-06 12:11 PM

so if you had 5-6 friends that means they were in a different car...and you were probably racing... you dont have to lie to us :D

sorry for your loss...but maybe its not that serious? If you fried your coolant seals it would still run...just smoke a lot...

gafu mazda 09-08-06 12:16 PM

or get one of those 5-6 friends to get in the truck(or beat up car),tie a rope and pull away!!

we werent racing actually, the police have been really cracking down on that here. they hired an additional 25 officers just to patrol where we hold our meets, helicopters...the whole nine yards. to ive been laying off of the racing scene for the past 2-3 months. 2 of my friends got arrested last night and had their cars impounded for racing last night. so im kinda laying low in that scene for now.

not necessarily, i have seen a number of motors dump coolant into both front and rear rotors. water doesn't burn so you can guess what happens when you try to start it.

Mahjik 09-08-06 12:47 PM

Overheating does not always means things are damaged or toast. Pull the leading plugs and the EGI relay; crank it over and see what shoots out the plug holes. If its a lot of coolant, then you have a problem.

White94RX 09-08-06 01:02 PM

Worst case, blown motor.

thats true...but ive never seen THAT much coolant get in that fast...i mean he said he just let it cool down for a bit...could that much coolant leak in in say 20 min?

efranklin 09-08-06 05:09 PM

rx713bt 09-08-06 07:50 PM

And with a FD usually it's the worst case.

Yeah

His situation and aftermath very well sounds like the worst scenario.

Sorry bro.

JDMRevolution 09-08-06 08:53 PM

I need a temp gauge..

PDViper77 09-09-06 12:05 AM

131 degrees C, Holy shit man :wallbash: . I start to freak out if my PFC reads anything over 91 degrees C :crying:

I survived a trip to 121C at least for now. I personally don't get worried, in traffic unless it's above 100C. Though right after my rebuild on the stock setup 106C was common in the summer.

my car overheated a couple weeks ago (yes i was racing). it also caught on fire and i thought my engine was blown. took it to Rick's rotary and he said i melted the spark plugs and wiring harness along with a couple other things that needed to be replaced. he said the rotor housing was fine though, so lets hope yours does not need a rebuild either.

I'e been to 130c+ and lived to see the light of day. But many are not that lucky though

Terrh 09-10-06 10:14 AM

my old S5 engine in my T2 had a 150 mile drive with a siezed thermostat, and lived run again.

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
