NOT. There is no "must remove" any of those things.

While some items will last longer if you install aftermarket replacements (AST, radiator, vacuum hoses), the DTC, EGR, AWS have no bearing on overall reliability and life.

EGR only helps the engine when it gets hot ......... I never understood why people took these off.

FD musts: Stock downpipe. replace with aftermarket downpipe.

All of these fall under the category of pointless modifications. Add throttle body coolant bypass and vacuum hose 'simplification' and you have an almost complete set.

I've had 20 FDs. Most all mods do not increase reliability. The only mods that I feel are important are downpipe and AL AST. The rest of the stuff can be handled as regular upkeep.

While I do agree with you, I must insist that an aftermarket radiator is pretty damn important in a lot of climates in the US. Vegas reaches 120F. + and the stock radiator is not nearly cutting it.

This right here is what I want to know. I have heard about people blocking off the EGR pipe because it gets clogged, saying a clogged EGR pipe can cause damage.

Wouldn't blocking the EGR off be the same thing as having a clogged pipe?

The engine would be running more rich in both cases, no?

DP and maybe a pfc are musts? Besides the DD.

The EGR does not "help" the engine... it "helps" emissions. Even then, at least in CA, they don't test the engine at the speeds at which the EGR is functioning.

Blocking off the EGR is NOT the same as a clogged one because carbon deposits have no chance of entering the intake tract when there are no deposits to speak of. Furthermore, JDM engines did not even have the EGR installed, so it isn't as if taking the one off the USDM is somehow crippling the motor.

You will need all 3, especially since an FD will try and take all of them from you. But you will be "cool" while its happening!
