FD Just Not Fun Anymore!!
 

It's that time of the year. The time where I loose all interest in the FD and thoughts of selling it start to take over. You start to take Note and realize how much money you have spent on the car and the numbers are overwhelming. Is it worth it to keep going?
How many of you go through this winter crisis and what do you do to shake it off?

I buy more parts?

I go back and forth...Then I talk to my wife and she convinces me to keep it.

I've done that with both my FD and my 10thAE.

1. Don't add it up.
2. Go drive it.

Tell that to a person who doesn't have an FD, then you see them have the most enjoyable time in one then you realized you made a huge mistake selling it. Then you will buy another and buy a shit load of parts and spend double.

Your location is the problem not your FD.

Move to Florida and you don't have to worry about it, you get to enjoy the car all year long :D


Oh yeah another bonus... No emissions testing!

But don't sell your FD, you'll regret it.

Every person I've talked to that used to own an FD, every single one, has regretted selling them. They usually talk about how they miss "the feeling" of the FD moreso than any other car.

I will heed their warnings.

I bought mine back 6yrs after selling it!

I had burnt myself out on my last fd as well and sold it. As you can see I'm back with another one. It's like when you beak up with a girl but then you see her with another guy and realize some other dude is giving your old girl the bone. It sucks. I saw my old car showing up on other local car forums etc. I did not initially regret selling it until I saw it around with someone else behind the wheel.

Try to keep it if you can. Go buy a Jeep to play with in the winter.

MOARBONER, I get that feeling whenever the colder weather sets in. It takes the fun out of driving the car in the rain and the terrible weather. Your mood goes down a bit in winter as well, and then these kinds of thoughts set in..

Just dont sell it. Mazda has just issued a press release the other day, saying the future of the rotary (and thus any new RX cars in development) is dead because the rotary is not a viable sales option anymore. If their press release is anything to go by, you have one of the last factory turbocharged rotary Mazdas in your garage. The value will only go up, as will the rarity.
These cars will likely be the collectible old school Mustangs and Camaros to the next generation who will grow up to middle age and want them. 90's supercars will become the next collectible thing.

Also, summer is beginning to slowly come to Australia for me, finally!!!! (our winters last from April to November and are utterly miserable as all hell) so the negative thoughts about my car are going away and I'm able to get out and enjoy it again now. And I'm glad its not going anywhere. There is nothing like sitting outside a restaurant at the beach, having dinner and looking over and seeing your FD RX7 parked nearby. And its yours. Its not a Camry or a Corolla or some mass produced whitegood-mobile. It is the only one in the parking strip, and it's all yours.

I'm fortunate in having several other cars to drive at my discretion and thus my FD is truly a fun diversion when I take it out, which is usually once every few weeks but sometimes I go months in between runs, which makes it even more pleasurable. My car is much like my boat; I'm in it so seldom that each experience is something I savor every time I get to do it.
I've never thought for a minute about selling my car, not once.
Threads like this pop up from time to time and the replies are usually along the same lines as what has been seen so far. NEVER add up what you have in your car, it can lead towards resentment. Another thing that naturally leads one to thinking about selling is if the car is constantly requiring service/parts/more money. I think sometimes some owners try to do too much at once and end up not being able to do any of it "right", and just invite trouble. Finally, I firmly believe that the more 'stock' you can keep it, the more reliable and thus less expensive to own and thus more 'fun' the car can be. By and large the guys with the big-power cars with flawless exteriors and interiors have the means to do it without even noticing it from a financial perspective. The rest of us have to make some choices sometimes.
In summary, when you get in the doldrums about your car or anything else for that matter, it is good to make a list of good and bad, pros and cons, and take a hard look in the mirror and ask, "Will I be happier without this in my life?", and be honest with yourself when answering.
You might be surprised at what that exercise will do for you.

I sold my first for all the right reasons. I regretted it immensely and hung around this damn forum til I got a new one.
It's a terminal disease.
There's something about the challenge and reward. It's a unique car with panty dropper looks that still holds it's own with modern sports cars.

HI if you sell your fd let me know (Just Kidding). My first car that I bought and drove was a fd3s and I still have it and never plan to sell it unless someone gives me a trade offer for a LAMBO or FERRARI anyways you get the point (DONT SELL IT) you will regret it.

I would never keep track of any amount of money I spent on my car because yes it can be depressing lol. What matters is when your driving it and how it makes you feel. I haven't owned mine more than a year, but I don't foresee me selling it in the future. Just get an Evo or Subie for the winter and take the FD out when the weather is nice. Also like everyone else says when they sold it they regretted it and quite a few bought another one.

I believe few people have had the head aches I've had from a car .. But after driving it . you cant help but fall in love all over again , after driving other sports cars you realize they just dont FEEL the same ..

Just about everyone save a couple of car friends have told me to get rid of my FD LOL. I made countermeasures so even in those moments of close to wanting to Burn the car not sell it . It makes me think twice.. and remember . That there is something special about the FD... sit in it practice heel toeing , shifting looking down your windscreen imagine that sound of the engine reaching 8k rpms that satisfying knotch as it goes into the next gear . and it starts over again . The feeling of the seat belt as it grinds into you when you brake .. that feeling of the car being more then a car more then a tool , a brush and the road your canvas ..

I like my FD, so much fun. I spent a lot on it, but then I log into my brokerage account and feel much better.

Last year I sold the FD for a Viper GTS and recently sold the Viper to fund a Murci/Gallardo. Haven't looked back!

Timeless appealing design &... to each his own, w/twin turbos correctly working, wonderful street FUN!

I thought I grew out of the FD phase. Was going to sell mine too but I decided to autocross and track it. Now I'm in love with her again.

It a collectors item. Very unique piece of art and machinery. Was driving her today and thinking about how the interior curves are so refined.

I'm in MA and still drive it daily until snow is on the ground.

Just the opposite for me. Missing the FD when she's hibernating... it's a good time to perfect my Shift 2, Gran Turismo, and GTR2 skills.

Think about how you will feel about it, a month or so before summer... excited, preparing to get it ready for the road again. Fixing those minor details..
I guess im in a somewhat similar situation, facing a long stint of not driving it.. But not because its winter..iv had almost a year off driving and have kept the FD. Im getting it ready for when i can drive again in Feb...fixing those minor details, upgrading the little things..falling in love again.
