FD Heater Core
Is there anyway to remove the heater core without removing the AC condenser? if so how?
|
First off, the AC part under the dash is the AC evaporator - just getting your terms right. The condenser is in front of the radiator.
You have to pull the whole dash to get to the heater core so it's a BIG job. The evaporator may be slightly in the way but I think if you unbolt it you can probably get the heater core out without having to totally disconnect and discharge the AC system. Is your heater core leaking? Dale |
Yeah it started leaking after i swapped my tan carpet out for a black one. ive already done the job 3 times but ive never been able to get the heater core out and i really really don't want to recharge my whole ac system

A) the A/C and heater are in completely separate boxes.
b) i'm not sure about the FD, but the FC and Miata have a little cover over the heater core and then it slides out, no other parts need to be removed. ~30 minute job c) aren't there some O rings on the FD setup? |
Heater core will slide out of the box once it's out. The evaporator is in the way. There's no easy way to get to it, you have to pull that whole bastard.
I can't remember if there are O-rings in there. Regardless it all has to come out. There's only 3 nuts holding the AC evaporator in place and you should be able to pull it forward some to clear the heater core. I think it can be done if you are careful but again I haven't tried it. Dale |
Got it thank you so much. ill reply to this thread with photos if i have any issues
