FD harness gauge wires
 

Goodmorning to everyone. Does anyone know what gauge wire to use for replacing engine and emission harness. I am having an overall engine bay renovation. Where can I get quality wires?https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...e0cea0f84a.jpg

All the wires are different gauges depending on the load they have to carry. If you're starting from scratch you're better off getting a good used harness or, if you want a good engine harness, getting one of the aftermarket ones that are upgraded from stock.

From my measurments a large proportion of the wires in the engine harness are 20 gauge, with power to the injectors 16 gauge.

You'll need screened cable for the knock and CAS/RPM and preference for twisted if it's a pair and the screen needs to be properly terminated.

The stock earths are a bit of an odity as you have multiple cables joining into a single cable of the same size, I personally made this larger in my loom or ran additional wires. You see the same with the injector power wires, which just give more resistance and potential for heat in the wire with larger injectors esp if working them harder.

Coils likely require larger cable size but don't have my notes to hand atm

Hope that's of some use, but as per Dale, I'd recommend stripping a factory harness to give you an indication of what size you will require and routing if you're starting from scratch.

I've already stripped (see pics) ignition, engine and emission harness. I 'll find out what size is each and I'll seek for a good quality. Flexwires and abtech seemed to me pretty good after a quick search. I'll let you know when receiving the stuff. Your answers were very helpfull to me.Tomorrow I 'll try to pull the engine+tranny out.
