FD harness connectors?
 

ok so i've spent a few more hours searching all over hell to see if anyone may make replacement connector ends for the engine main harness for the FD but i'm throwing in the towel again for another night and haven't heard back from any of the manufacturers i sent inquiries to.

so have any of you come across the stock style connectors in your searching of the webs?

i'm trying to put together sources so i can get together enough connectors to rebuild the harnesses completely since it seems that no connector is out of reach of premature failure at the hands who knows. $1k for a new harness is a bit steep so i would like to be able to build something for half that to give options to people who have garbage harnesses. so far i've only located a few of the connectors but ones such as water thermosensor/fuel temp, 110c water temp, smog pump, crank triggers, etc still elude me.

Karack - The guy on the forums who builds the milspec harnesses...I believe his name is Aeka GR or Aeska GR or something like that...his avatar is/was a picture of a Raptor dunking a basketball...I believe had a source for all the connectors but one. Check with him.

I'm not going to say they are all AMP/Tyco, but certainly many/most of them are, including the main harness plugs. I was one of the guys who found the part number for the boost control solenoids (precontrol/wastegate) by actually looking through the Tyco online catalog.

Gringo, He's not the only person building mil-spec harnesses. :nod:.Just the only one paying for the right to advertise on the forums. I guess it's time for me to put my dog in the fight too now.

I found a company that is currently measuring out my TPS clip and trying to source me a new one. If i find out they can i'll post up there information and ask them some more questions about sourcing out all the clips. I'm sure they would need all the clips mailed to them to be measured out though.

Slevin - May want to get a Vendor account like the other guy. I've noticed that even hinting at products and services without having a vendor account tends to result in a polite but firm notice from the staff. =)

thanks for the info, it's good to know that they are out there floating around. after spending about 2 hours on mouser i got irritated trying to find the right style which it seems they don't even have with their 10's of thousands of connectors.

Karack, one of the other vendors on the forum basically announced in an old thread they could source every connector on the emissions harness but some of the connectors had to be purchased in bulk. However, they did not list any part numbers or sources. Unfortunately, I can't find the exact thread, but it was either Banzai or A-Spec. So, in short they are out there...

When I was sourcing the precontrol/wastegate solenoid plug (which is used on other stuff too) another user on here convinced Ballengar Motorsports to buy the connector in bulk and carry them in stock.

when we were doing haltechs we were able to source everything except the CAS connectors, those are weird. and the colored emissions solenoid connectors

we did have to buy some in bulk too, we have boxes of the ecu connectors, both male and female for example.

Why not just send Aeka GSR a pm? I've purchased a new milspec harness from him for a really good price (cheaper than an OEM harness **single turbo**) with my old harness as a core which I got for about 130 and used for 2 years.

His craftmanship on the harness is flawless. I highly recommend him if you have any questions regarding a custom main harness.

do these sources have the water temp harness connector? I broke mine, Rotary Performance said they couldn't source just the connector. I switched it over to a weather pak, but I would like to stay factory if possible.

Is the water temp/fuel temp connector the same as the IAT?

We have looked into this and identified the manufacturers of all the connectors for the FC and FD. However, I am still not going to list every manufacturer and every part number for the bodies, terminals, wire seals and locks for every connector on the RX7. If this is something you want to pursue you are going to have to do the months of research yourself, but I am willing to point you in the right direction.

One of the problems you are are going to have is that some of the connectors are made by Sumitomo, which happen to have insanely high minimum order quantities, and no real distribution network. For instance one of the connectors they wanted 1000pc minimum order on the body, with a 40,000 piece min on the terminals.

Sumitomo is factory direct, there are no distributors. There is a small outfit called Senko that claims to be able to distribute, however it is only after they receive express written permission from Sumitomo to sell to any particular company. This is granted by contacting Sumitomo, we have permission to buy, however we will not buy thousands of dollars worth of each wire terminal to meet the mins.

The Sumitomo connectors that are used are the DL sealed series you will recognize them when you see them. Here is a link to the catalog.

The white and grey CAS connectors are Sumitomo. Pretty much every grey connector is.

thanks for the info, in the process of wiretuck and engine bay cleanup would love to be able to rip out harness and put in a custom one instead of hacking mine

thanks for the info, for the most part i just wanted a resource for connectors to be able to repair harnesses on engines that come out for rebuild. it gets tiring spending hours patching harnesses together with used connectors which i know will fail in another few years.
