FD front stationary gear + S4 TII front counterweight? Bad?

I am rebuilding an FD engine that has turned out to be a sort of hodge-podge of parts. Lots of "fun" surprises. It has an S4 Turbo II front counterweight and rotors, however the stationary gear is the FD piece. I read in another thread that the front FD stationary gear and an S4 counterweight is not really supposed to go together, but in looking at the parts I can not see where the problem would be. Can someone please explain why this is a "no-no", if it is?

Thanks,
James

The stationary gear has nothing to do with the counter weight. In fact the Fd's stationary gears are superior to the older S4-S5 engines as they are hardened. You just need to make sure the counter weight matches the rotors. All the counterweights have drill holes and are matched to a specific set of rotors. Example, if you had s4 counter weight and Fd rotors then you would have a problem as the rotor weights vary greatly between the two engines. This engine was obviously put together for HI boost reasons. FIY the S4 rotors are very strong.

OK this is good to know. I am already on the hunt for a S4 TII stock flywheel, because my motor has the FD one combined with the S4 rotors and counterweight. I doubt it was really built for high boost; I think it was just cobbled up from what the guy had laying around. :(

I believe the rotors counter each other, and the weights counter each other. You just just need to make sure the rotors match, and that the front counterweight and rear counterweight match.

Go with an fd front stationary gear, less prone to spinning bearings. Cheers

Does the S4 counterweight require specific thrust washers and bearings, or can you use the FD ones? I see on Atkins & Pineapple that those parts are different between S6 and the previous cars.

Thanks
