FD to FC Primary Coil question
 

I'm installing an FC primary coil on my FD and have a question. On the FD coil, what polarity do the wires correspond to? I found this thread from GoodFellas suggesting that polarity doesn't matter. I hate to be a doubter but I imagine Mazda wouldn't bother to put a + and - on the terminals if this was the case. I remember from back in my VW days that you could hook up a bosch-type coil backwards and while it would work, it wouldn't work as well.

Can anyone confirm please?

You could just turn the key and see which wire has voltage and that would be your power wire. It does not not matter which wire you use as the postive, but i would use the power wire as the power wire, it keeps things simplier. At least for me.

From what I remember, the FC coil is connected directly to the igniter, and the igniter should be taking care of terminal polarity. If you look at a stock FC you should be able to tell what goes where. There's one sitting at my friend's house, I can take a photo this weekend.

Hes putting the fc primary coil into the fd, the fd coil does not say pos or neg like the fc. He does not know which wire in the fd wiring is pos and which is neg.

Ah yes, I see that now.

From the wiring diagram that I've downloaded, the Black/Red wire is coming from the positive terminal of the battery (after passing through a fuse or two). It should connect to (+).

Thanks.. I suspected that was the orientation after chasing down some other facts.. With all of the damned proxy errors on the forum lately it's been hard to search for much of anything.
