FD Dual Tip Exhaust?

Been looking for a dual tip exhaust for my '92 Efini FD, and right now I'm tied up between the Racing Beat Dual Tip or the APEXi N1 dual exhaust. N1 looks better in my opinion but I'm worried it'll be too loud. Any other suggestions or experience with either? Not going with a single tip because they really don't seem to sit right in the bumper, just my opinion. FD has APEXi PowerFC ecu, Rotary Performance non-resonated midpipe with a Denso fuel pump and stock injectors. Makes 286 at the rear wheels at 80% max injector duty. |
N1 Dual will be crazy loud with your setup. Also will probably melt the plastic valance from too-close fit. |
There are a lot of threads but few other choices for a DT than what you named. It looks to be more of a true dual but probably pretty loud. And from the pictures I've seen of it looks to crowd the rear valance and/or require trimming. I just can't remember the name. N1 Dual is the worst exhaust ever made for the FD. Avoid at all costs. Sounds like crap and fits like crap.

I agree, I have a M2 Catback with a High-Flow Cat (I think it's M2 also) and it's not really that loud compared to other exhausts, probably on par with the Racing Beat.

Even more unicorn than the M2 is the St. May Shotgun exhaust if you can find a used one. St may went out of business a while back. Looks like a bigger Dual N1, but it's comparably quiet as the RB Duals.

racing beat dual tip, it sounds classy and still loud when you open it up, the apex n1 and any variant sounds awful

Racing beat is most tame sounding with probably the least highway drone but also most restrictive.

I went from HKS Silent Hi Power to Racing Beat Duals .... it went from 83 dB idle and 95 dB WOT to 68 dB idle and 79 dB WOT
I am on twins with all bolt ons, power did not change. |
If you can find a St May, that's my favorite. Then, M2 and then Racing Beat.

I have several exhausts at home including the St. May, I would not call it a quiet exhaust. It is called the shotgun exhaust after all. I have not run it with my resonator though. I do not have a RB to compare to but I’m now running Tanabe medallion and it is pretty quiet. I’m happy with it. |

I recently swapped the st may back from RB duals. Sounds the same with the resonator while driving it around town. I enjoy having music while driving even with just my door speakers. I'll record a new/better video soon. Here are some pics from last week.
Only draw back with these is weight. Wanted to make a note here that the "M2" exhaust is still available new, just not from the defunct M2 outfit. HiTech Exhaust in Sydney, Australia made those exhausts from M2 back in the day, and they're still in business. After deciding I wanted a M2 and couldn't find one used, I went straight to the source and they had a "M2" FD exhaust new on the shelf that they shipped to me - they also said they have the jigs still in their factory so they can make them new to order as well. If you don't mind the shipping cost, give them a shout and see if you can get one made for you.
