fd cuts out at high rpms

hey guys, my fd keeps cutting out at high rpms like around 7k, dont know why just does, i have cat back, dp and midpipe with hi flow cat, also have air box mod and a pettit limited ecu. only thing i can think of i fuel cut becuase it just cuts out and stumbles at high rpms boost is around 13-14 psi. any ideas im guessing fuel filter? if anyone has any advice please let me know thanks

danny

Don't you need to upgrade your fuel system at 13-14psi? I would say you need to get more fuel in, upgrade the pump or rewire the stock one at least. Then again I'm going by some things I have only read, I would see what the more experienced guys say.

You are running out of fuel or you have a Limited Pettit ecu and are hitting fuel cut. Are you trying to blow the motor?

Get a boost controller on there immediately and lower the boost back down to 13 psi or less (especially with the stock IC, yikes!). And maintain your car. When's the last time you changed filters/plugs, etc?

changes plugs wire, pcv like 3 month ago, havnt changed fuel filter even though i have one to replace with, i thought the ecu could handle up to 14 psi, i didnt think it was that big of a deal it did it to me once and ive been not getting on it since then, i was gonna replace fuel filter this weekend and order a boost controller front mount is next but thats sucks that ecu cant even handle that

get new injectors and pump.. that should be the first thing u do before boosting higher than 12.. then a new ic.. if not we gonna have another blow motor thread

Extremely doubtful he needs NEW injectors (although his may need to be cleaned) and you do not need a better fuel pump with the stock injectors.

Not really. I'd say that if you do have the "Limited" chip in the ECU that it saved you from fragging your apex seals. Do some research on why it's not a good idea to boost higher than 14 psi with stock injectors, fuel pump...and stock IC...

Daniel577h 01-27-07 06:19 PM

i know its only meant to handle 14 thats why i only driving once like this i dont wanna blow it and i have ordered a greddy profec b, but just wonder if the boost is the only reason it cuts out.

Get a wideband if you don't have one already -it will tell you what the problem is. They're only a few hundred dollars now. There is really no excuse not to have one.

mine cuts out at 2k rpm , and have the air box mod. but i dont think i would hit fuel cut that low in the rpm range . what could cause this, i may have put the L2 wire on the L1 plug, but runs and ides perfect under 2k rpm

fuel cut is simple: if the boost gets too high, it cuts. Doesn't really matter what RPM.

ok. now i got a boost controller profec b set to 10 psi but at around 7k it starts to bog down like just falls on its face, boost stays at 10 up till it dies and then i look away from gauge and let off throttle, boost fine till then, replaced filters. plugs runs perfect besides this, i think its the ecu not being able to handle it or something, whats are pettit limted ecu rpm cut?

What you have is ignition breakup. I had the same problem when I started modding my car. Install an ignition amp like the HKS twinpower will solve the problem.

adam c 04-05-07 09:26 AM

Warm your car up to 210 degrees, and try it again. Your ecu may be sensing that the engine is cold, and restricting power to protect it.

Daniel577h 04-06-07 12:26 AM

does it just break up or just completly stop when ignition starts to break up. ill try twin power next. any other ideas?

Sr20fd3st 04-06-07 12:40 AM

i doubt ignition break up would suddenly come into effect at real high rpm's. by the time your running 7k, if there wasnt break up before there most likely wont be break up at that point. most likely fuel break up. u said u havnt changed your fuel filter...start there, even though its a horrible pain in the ass
