To FD BNR stage3-owners
 

Hi all, Øyvind from Norway here.

im about to purchase a set of BNR stage3s, and i wanted to hear about your experiences with the Stage3s to the FD, as the search mainly came up with 2.nd gen BNR upgrades....

I have read alot about rx7store.net, some with purely positive experiences, some with only negative ones, thats the way the businessworld is, you hear only from the negative ones, rarely from the satisfied customers, so please dont get into this. :)

So, FD-owners out there, experiences? dynosheets?modifications done? Driverfeelings?

I would say make sure that you have something bigger than an SMIC in when you get the BNR's, if you plan on raising the boost.

I just recently had mine installed and love them! I went the whole nine yards with support mods (except for larger Intercooler) when I got mine. But this is mainly because I had planned to significantly raise the boost.

BNR's are great because, if you want to keep stock (or mostly stock) you can, but if you want to go further and crank the boost up to 17-18psi you can also do this, without changing turbos.

At .8 bar I saw the same power with my BNRs as I did with my stock twins, the BNR's really start to shine when you go over the level of boost which the stockers can handle. Where as the HT12 (or TW12 as I've seen them referred to on MRC) start to lose steam at 15psi the BNR's just keep chugging, taunting you to add a little more.

I love my Sequential BNR's, I just don't have efficient enough cooling right now (using a GReddy SMIC) to really push them w/o significantly raising AIT's. I'll report back after I've gotten an Aquamist system put on and I can keep cool ^_^

i acually just bought them, just waiting for it to be shipped.. i loved the twins so i figured to stay with them instead of doing a single. all im waiting for is the turbos and off to get a rebuild for me

I ran them for years at boost levels as high as 19 psi and they were bulletproof. Plus, Bryan stands behind his product 100%.

I'd recommend running them sequential, just because non-seq can be a bit laggy for the street.

Dont confuse SMIC with a stock intercooler. there are SMIC that have bigger cores then some v mounts and FMICs.
To run the BNRs non sequential would be pointless, might aswell go to a single if thats what u are gonna do with a set of twins.

^^Correct, the dyno results above were made with my M2 race smic, which had a core size of 17x12.3.5 IIRC.

I have a set of stage threes supersized ,one off , non seq with my rich mans mod .I will not trade for a single plus money to boot .The best part is the service from Brian .

Wow, good to know! lol. I need to fab a better duct or something. I've got the GReddy SMIC (using the stock duct) and it's not very efficient at all... I was running yesterday (ran into a Ralliart EVO 5) and hit intake temps in the 70's VERY quickly at 1.1bar... not good at all!

mine are non-seq. and i love them there not as laggy as everyone seems to think here im looking at about a bar at 4500 rpms i dont think thats too laggy. but on the other hand i could have went single for the same price but i already got a greddy SMIC and didnt want to change again so i went with the bnr's i beat 2 C5 Z06's and some cobras they were prob. stock i dont like the idea of trading stock twins for seq. bnr's because you keep the nightmare rats nest of vac lines but thats just me

Are you running 93 octane with 1 bar of boost?

that is very laggy, I get 15 psi at about 3400 with the BNR Stage 2s (93 octane)

the only thing you should put in our cars is 93 octane and up :)

Well unfortunately, 91 octane is all I have for pump gas. :(

Yes, that is definitely in the works for the future so I can go over 14 psi safely. :)

someone on here was speculatiing the 10% ethanol now in gas will allow you to run more boost safely, not sure if I buy it

Be aware of the fitment problems talked about in other threads!

you shouldn't rely on AI to run harder than what your pump gas supports. What happens if the AI system fails?

if this was true than the octane rating would be labeled higher, which it isn't.

Um... this issues was resolved via clocking the turbos to fit your setup. Not exactly something to be too worried about... especially considering the number of people that installed them without any issues whatsoever.
