FC coil in FD
I'm using an FC leading coil with my msd 6 box, and noticed the metal plate going around the base of the coil. now i hooked up the + and - leads where they should be and it runs and everything, bu i was wondering if the metal plate should be grounded or not. i dont wanna try and end up melting the coil. it used to be mounted right to the ignitor in the fc so i thoguth maybe it got grounded through the ignitor in some way...just wondering, thanks

It's funny you asked this, I was thinking about the samething today. I would like to know also, I think it should be grounded.

If I'm thinking of the same part as you guys... then I don't even have that peice on the car anymore...

i just wanna know if the fc coil should have a separate ground on the metal plate thing when you're using it in teh fd. i mean makes ense to me...but the fact that it runs seamingly normal without the ground throws me off. that and when i did put the ground on for a little bit the wire got a little warm...

yup just looked at mine and the only thing connected to my coil is the bracket I made to mount it.http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/9...0spadesvm6.jpg

Sorry I didn't do my install like yours so I can't say, but I would be concerned about the wire getting hot. Maybe someone with a similar setup can chime in.

yea i took the ignitor off...im just talking about the metal plate that is on the bottom of the mounting area on the fc coil. i think that metal part used to be mounted against the original ignitor. mine isnt mounted to any bracket of any sort, just has the + and - wires connected to where they go.

I didn't ground mine----it ran fine for over four years (~35,000 mi.), two of which the coil was zip-tied in place until I got around to making a bracket for it. I've got the Jacobs ignition amp---not that I think it makes a difference......

Ohhh I think I know what you are talking about now. Now that I think about it I would say mine is grounded from the bracket I made to the body. hope this helps
|
yea mine has no bracket just zip tied to the master cylinder. guess i wont ground it then..although i cant imagine it hurting anything since it mustv been grounded to the original ignitor before..
