Fast Acting IAT and washer

I have a stupid question. I purchased a fast acting IAT from wannaspeed and am getting ready to install it in my UIM. The OEM IAT includes a washer and I'm wondering if I need that same washer with the new one or not. I'm guessing no, but I wanted to check the internets first.

THANKS

That seal is a crush washer type to prevent leaks. Any good sealant will work.
But why would you want to install it in the known worst location?
Put it in the TB elbow or IC outlet.

Because I didn't know it was the known worse location??? ;)

Location of the AITS also depends on your type of IC, TB elbow, and if you are using water alcohol injection and the spray nozzle locations.

Should the AIT be before or after the WI spray nozzle?

Probably because it makes the installation plug-n-play. And the location works for a stock car.

Not a tuner, but from what I read it was recommended to place the IAT AFTER the IC but BEFORE the WI nozzle. Doing so, it doesn't mess with the tables/map. Mine's been there a few years now, no issues.

put a little RTV on the threads of the fast-acting sensor and it won't leak.

I would just re-use the OEM crush washer if installing it in the OEM spot. That crush washer doesn't have to hold back a lot of pressure and re-using it will be fine. You're holding back maybe 15psi of air, not 90psi of oil.

If you have it in a different spot, like a TB elbow, the crush washer might not work since you have a curved surface you're installing it to. If you had a bung welded on and you would have a flat surface for the crush washer to seal to, fine. If you're going into a curved surface that's been drilled and tapped, a little RTV or maybe even some teflon tape will do the job nicely. Good thing is the IAT is a two-wire sensor so it doesn't need to be grounded into what it's screwed into.

Thanks for all the info guys. I am having Ben from Rotary Extreme build me a custom V-Mount right now and just asked him about getting a couple bungs for Meth Nozzle and IAT relocation added to the Intake Plumbing.

BTW, if you haven't worked with him, he's awesome. He has put up with countless ignorant questions and changes from me and is very accommodating. He truly believes in customer service. I really cannot wait to get his V-Mount, I'm sure it will be fantastic.

cpl questions, is it iat or ait and whats the reason for the fast acting sensor? is the stock one very slow?

Sgtblue 10-03-13 07:08 AM

IAT or AIT...same thing afaik. Kind of like OMP or MOP.
The stock sensor is shielded where the other "faster acting" sensor is not. It has a sensor end that's open to direct contact with the air. I think that's what makes it "faster" to respond to temp differentials.
Personally for my modest hp level car I think re-locating it was as important as replacing it with the faster acting version.
