Fans not working?
 

Hey guys,

On thursday night my car started over heating and caused my radiator to blow. Since then I have replaced the radiator however the fans are still not working.

I've checked all connectors, all look fine. I have an aftemarket thermo switch, and running a PFC - i replaced the fan fuse and still no luck. I let it warm up, got to 106c and still no fans.

Any ideas?

There are four relays that operate the fans, you need to check that they have power and are functioning.

Couple quick tests:

Ground the TFA terminal in the diagnostic connector. Fans should turn on low
Put the rear defrost on, this should turn on the fans
Press the A/C button with the fan switch on 1,2,3,4....the cooling fans should turn on
There is a single wire black connector not plugged into anything by the ECU, use a piece of wire and connect it to a ground. The fans should turn on.

If none of these work then you need to test the actual fan motors page E-11 in the FSM

BTW, there is no need for an aftermarket thermo switch when you have a PFC. The fan temps are adjustable with the datalogit.

1. I'm not running a/c - but turned it on and nothing.
2. Turned rear defrost on - still nothing
3. Checked for the wire - already appears to be grounded

How do I exactly ground the TFA terminal?

Either your relays are not getting power or both your fan motors are dead.

Try changing the 60A cooling fan fuse. Even if it looks like it is still good.

Simply take a paper clip and connect TFA to GND, just like you would if you were jumping the fuel pump.

I am having a similar problem and have tested all the relays. The fans work because I put them on a temporary switch. I have found more then one shorted / broken wire in the engine bay loom on this car and suspect I will find another when I start tracing the a/c wires.

I've put the 60A in - but didn't have an effect.

I'll going to ground the TFA tonight, and will also check the relays and see if their getting power. If their not i'll bypass the relays and see if I can get them working.

So i've played around with it and got rid of the relays as they're the reason the fans are not working.

I found both earths and have still kept the ground.... thought I found bth negatives.

When I touch one positive with the negative, one fan comes up (ignition off).

However I cannot seem to get the other fan going? Both earths with the negative from above works fine and get that one fan going, but the other negative with either positive would not get the other fan going?
