Fan switch on dash.
 

Hi,

I have a 1999 RX7 and the fan switch on the dash only works on number 4, tried a good switch in its place, but still only works on number 4. Anything else I need to check. Hope someonr can help:confused:

This might be off base, but in most cars there is a resistor package (the switch determines what resistance is connected) usually housed in an air duct near the fan motor that gives you the lower speeds. This resistor is probably burned out or has an open circuit, and only the highest speed (direct connection, not thru the resistor) remains working.

That's what I was going to recommend. The resister back is on the top of the pass footwell. It's got a four wire connector going to it. It's usually rusted and not making good connections.

Cheers for the info, I'll have a look at this connector / resistor in the passenger footwell and see if resistor is blown or maybe a bad connection. Let you know how I get on.:icon_tup:

Can anyone tell me exactly where this connector for the fan is? Had a look under passenger footwell, but could not find one with a resistor on it? Any specific colour of the connector?

next to the kick panel under the passenger side, there's a black plug with 4 wires. this plug goes to the resistor pack. unplug the connector and remove the two screws...the resistor pack should slide out afterward.

there is a good 'diy' writeup on clubrx.org, but i can't get the site to come up at the moment due to technical difficulties perhaps. if i can get the link to come up, i'll send it your way should you still need it.

I went to take out the resistor pack to investigate and I seen there was no cabel connected:confused:

Then I found the connector tucked up under the front trim. Plugged it in and all fan settings worked:icon_tup:

So only for you guys, I would probably have taken out most of the dash!!
