A/F ratio gauge never stable
I recently installed an A/F ratio gauge to aid in troubleshooting an idle problem I've had since I bought the car. The LEDs constantly go from off scale lean to off scale rich and back and fourth. The only time it somewhat stablizes is when I'm at a constant speed on the freeway. (usually towards the rich side). I tapped the signal wire into the O2 sensor wire next to the connector by the intake manifold. The Tap is on the sensor side. The question is, "Is this Normal for it to bounce all over like that?"

those narrow band o2 sensor are pretty much worthless. this is what you need:
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...hmentid=120857 yes, it's normal for the leds to oscillate like that. |
What type of gauge is it???? If it is auto meter it's right on to do that crazy light show. All will fluctuate, but auto meter gauges in my opinion are light shows, not an accurate reading.

narrowband = bad

do yourself a favor and search this site, you just wasted money on the guage and your time on the install. this site has a wealth of information....use it to your advantage. |

I have an autometer gauge and when its flashing all over the place at idle that's a good thing. When I was having problems with my car running rich, it would be all the way rich at idle. From what I've heard, the only time the narrowband sensors are remotely accurate is under load (ie wot).

NO.... Narrowband sensors are only accurate between 14-15 AFR (cruise). WOT = 10-12 AFR get a WBO2 and be done with it.
