Experience with HKS

What are your thoughts on HKS products? In particular their intercoolers. I just purchased a HKS fmic and wanted to know what you guys though about it. I dont remember hearing about too many people with them and searching doesnt come up with too much information. Post some pics of them if you got it.

They have some of the best products but are overpriced. My cousin has an HKS FMIC on his Silvia.

i have nothing but HKS parts on my car, and havent had a single problem. some people say they are overpriced, but ive never had a problem with them, and they are damn good parts. its funny cause the only time ive ever had a problem with aftermarket parts was with my greddy electronic boost gauge, it totally screwed the wiring on my car, maybe cause its the only non-HKS part i have? :D

I had all HKS parts on a Supra I had before, I have nothing but good things to say about their stuff.. never had a single problem. I even had an old, OLD boost controller (EVCI) and it still worked flawlessly. The only HKS parts I have on my FD is the turbo kit, can't comment on the fmic. I always say you get what you pay for so HKS is worth the extra $ to me sometimes.

This isn't about the FMIC, but I have an HKS downpipe on my car, and again, have nothing but good things to say. Install was easy (if a dp can be described as such) and fitment was real good.

Car looks real sharp, man :). Have you thought about swapping out the old style "toilet bowl" emblems for some Efini or new style Mazda emblems?

tookwik 06-28-03 08:22 AM

how the hell did you relocate the a/c? I had heard that with the HKS the a/c was not affected.

Do you know if it is a 3-row or 2-row intercooler?

tookwik 06-28-03 08:25 AM

Did you have to cut the front bumper? or anything for that matter?

Qball 06-28-03 02:02 PM

if you look through the "mouth" of your car you'll see the radiator and the a/c is angled.

you have to stand the radiator up... cut the hoses for it to fit..

you also have to stand up the a/c condenser.. (its in front of the radiator) it consists of hard aluminum piping.. its easily bent but its still a bitch because if you crimp the pipes there goes your a/c.

you have to cut about 4 inches off the inside of your front bumper.

if you look at the inner mouth on the front bumper you'll see a complete rotary-like indentation on the bottom inner portion. when it all fit.. about half of it was gone. you have to cut the sides and the bottom.. the top cleared.

i have the hks type-s.. just look at the hks website for the specs.

thanks.. i dont have the car anymore. :D

oh yah.. one more thing.. my motor was completely out of the car for a rebuild making the process somewhat easier... it was also on a lift.

it took me several days all by myself... maybe that's what made it seem hard. no help. hopefully it goes a lot smoother for you.

What happened?

Silvia_S13 06-28-03 02:47 PM

wit the Type-S i noticed that the fins get bent pretty easily, compared to my friends greddy VSPL or whatever its called. the fins are tough to rake too, you got to do each one by hand
