Exhaust "valve" question... sequential turbos
1 Attachment(s)
ive always had this strange rattle noise coming from the turbo manifold area under deceleration and the other day i tore down my engine for a rebuild because of a blown apex seal and noticed this butterfly type valve in the manifold. im guessing its for the sequential turbo system because its controlled by vacuum. but my question is... is it supposed to be able to rattle around? or is it supposed to be rigid? the valve itself has quite a bit of play up and down in the manifold and also pivots side to side... any info would be great! thanks

Had my exhaust manifold off last week and the plate in the left port has a lot of play, almost like it uses that play to help it gain momentum during switch over. I am like you, scratched my head when I saw it, seems strange.

I think that this is normal. I had my Turbos off a few months back and mine is identical. I seem to recall that my first FD was the same as well.

but can you hear yours rattle when you let off the throttle?
|
Not at all.
|
yea mines got quite the rattle haha

Like a metallic rattle? My car is in the shop right now, intake off, and when I open and close the throttle the turbos make a whaa whaa sound when it is deaccelerating .
