Exhaust ticking noise

Hey guys! I'm trying o get my exhaust fixed up before I go to the Carlisi cruise this coming Saturday! Which reminds me I still have to sign up! Anyway there is a strange ticking noise coming from my exhaust. I know it's the exhaust because for one it smells, two my center consol where the shifter is gets really toasty after about a half hour of driving, and three I have loss of performance. I was beginning to think my turbos might be cracked cus me and my good friend disassembled all the exhaust and turbos and made sure everything was tightened one bolt at a time! I do have a aftermarket downpipe without the prw-cat and a peter farrel exhaust after that also. Does anyone have any idea as to what it may be?? Hopefully I can get it figured out before the cruise...

All feedback is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

Possibly. In pretty sure the noise is coming from the engine bay, but then again would it be storing a bunch of excessive heat on my dash and center consol?

You sure you don't have an exhaust leak? That is usually the type of noise you are describing. As for the excessive heat that area does get pretty hot, is it more heat than you experienced in the past? When you pulled the turbos were they old manifold to engine gaskets? Did you reuse them? What about the other gaskets in the exhaust system?

if it ticks when its off its normal just the metal cooling off and shrinking back. Loss in performance and excessive heat would be a clogged main cat like scrub said. If its ticking with the car running that sounds like an exhaust leak, and for that i would just check all the gaskets mainly the turbo to DP one but they dont usually fail that often cause there metal.

edit: also having friends working on these cars can be a good way to get yourself and your in a world of hurt unless that person has one or has had experience with them in the past.

i was pretty sure that i had a exhaust leak. i just wasn't sure as to what could be making that noise and where it could be coming from. when we had done my rebuild, we basically replaced all and every gasket in the engine bay. from intake to exhaust and even the down pipe, so im almost positive it is not that. and the strange thing is we we made sure everything was tightened to spec during the rebuild and once after that as well. so could it be my main cat is clogged and its keeping most of the heat under the car rather than out through the exhaust and out the muffler?? i do see exhaust coming out of the muffler.... but could it be just leaving some exhaust out a little at a time and therefore making the ticking noise??

im considering taking it to a couple different shops first thing on monday... im stumped...

ill double check the metal gaskets if it isn't the main cat! oh and not to worry the guy that helps me out is dgeesaman. he is a absolut GENIUS about these cars. he knows his shit, trust me! :)

my turbo manifold warped and now i have a pre-turbo leak that GREATLY affects spool time. i thought maybe it wasnt set right so i took all the bolts off and retightend them evenly but no good need a new manifold
