Exhaust leak = decrease in boost?

my boost pattern is at 0.5-0.4-0.5 bar dats bellow the normal 8 psi for the primary and causes the secondary to not turn on...

i know i have an exhaust leak somewhere between the dp and the turbo... i can hear a tik tik tik sound complementing the idle rythm... so can an exhaust leak affect or decrease boost?? i dont see how, so enlighten me... :D

No but a clogged cat can cause boost problems.

It shouldn't be able to, unless the leak is between the housing and the turbo manifold.

tighten the bolts on the dp down...if you still have that sound then check all bolts on the turbos. I had exactly the same problem as you on my old set of turbos (though my boost varied from yours a bit...click click click). I had to take the turbos off and tighten everything up. There is a bolt on your dp that will be a real bitch to reach without doing a teardown.

First I tightened down the dp...which helped some...it sputtered a lot less. I had to pull the turbos to tighten all the bolts as well.

toadman had the same problem the same week I did. He replaced his gaskets on his dp as well as a few vacuum hoses that were cracked.

Yep. I had a cracked exhaust manifold and replaced it. I still snug the DP bolts about once every 6 months. They do lose tension from vibration and heating/cooling.

Yeah...definitely...the boost gets worse too, so look for 4-0-4 psi as the clog in the cat gets worse...

first thing first... i have a gutted cat ;) so i guess my boost pattern is not from the exhaust leak... hmmm got to start looking else where.

Artguy: how did you tightened the bolts?? i have the crappy torque wrench... and im not sure how accurate the readings are!

When i put back my turbo in august, it was all fine tho... is it a common problem the bolts loses tensions?? or should i get new bolts for turbo manifold, turbo and dp??
