exhaust/gas smell from engine
I am new to rotary and my FD is running in pretty good condition. However, every time I park it in the garage, there is a lot of exhaust smell coming from the engine. I don't think my fuel lines are leaking as I had it checked out. I am not running a straight pipe although I do have an aftermarket downpipe. The main cat is still on the exhaust and I even pass california smog.
So why does my car smell so bad? |
It's possible that you just have an exhaust leak. Possibly either at the downpipe or a damaged lower intake manifold gasket.

Check your FPD
|
FPD...stands for?
|
It's stands for Fuel Pulsation Damper, it's found on your primary fuel rail. I checked all my lines before and I thought I could have had a leaking FPD from smelling fumes, but I was just being paranoid and figured out it that my injectors are slightly leaky a bit, sometimes I may have a hard start sometimes. You might just be smelling the fuel in your manifold Lower Intake Manifold (LIM for future reference).

You may have an exhaust leak coming from the intake gasket
there is a rectangle opening on the center cast iron plate. If the gasket is not sealing well there than exhaust would leak out. Good Luck |
