Scrub 03-02-04 09:07 AM

It went from stock, to good, to fugly, to secksi. Looks good dude. :)

XSTransAm 03-02-04 09:09 AM

looks like you used steel piping for the intercooler.... did you have them chromed???? what were the costs of having the piping done and then the cost of whatever finish that is on it?

im asking because i need to get some custom piping for my intercooler and yours looks very nice :D

Montego 03-02-04 10:11 AM

I would like to say that your engine bay looks amazing!

Ok got a question for ya:

Why did you decide to keep the stock AST since your have your radiator upright?

spekdah 03-02-04 12:59 PM

Ive heard too many stories about the lack of understanding of the design of the Mazda AST. its an area that I have purposly left alone and I feel there has been no advantage/disadvantage keping it

spekdah 03-02-04 01:47 PM

I'm using mild 2mmm steel for my plumbing which has been chromed, I didi have alloy but I found it was a right asshole to keep polished an lookin good. I'm sooo glad I went chrome, the chome is so much deeper and richer, I reallyl cant fault it. and it wasnt expensive either, my front mount and ALL the plumbing chromed and polished only cost about $1000 nz

Montego 03-02-04 01:50 PM

Fair enough...
Are you gonna go aftermaket though?

You know I forgot who but a vendor sells an exact copy of the stock AST but it's made out of Aluminum intead of plastic.

Yeah, you know its funny cos I seem to remember a thread( it may not have been here) where a guy took apart a stock AST and found the internals were completely different to the aftermarket ones. Making me think that 'hey, theres actually more to an AST in an FD than you think.

PalmTreeDoc 03-02-04 06:50 PM

Looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much have you sepnt in Silicone Hose / IC Pipe Adaptors ???

I see Yellow, Black, then Purple ... ;)

Reaz 03-02-04 07:33 PM

Very clean. Looks like a lot of work.

spekdah 03-02-04 08:38 PM

silicon hose kits cost NZ$90 over here so iot aint no big thing. I'm very luck because when I first brought my FD i was about to get married so we decided to use FDs for the wedding cars. So I got in touch with this guy who owns a rotary Workshop and he let us use his as well, ( his car is a T-78 blown fully engine chromed and polished Bridgeport FD , show stopper!!!) since then I've become quite good freinds with him and he either gives me stuff or sells it real cheap to me. Most of the hoseing hes given me, honestly I've only spent about $25 on hose adaptors since Ive had my FD so I'm qutie lucky. He also gives me free advice when I need it and even Tunes my car when I upgrade!

derty 03-02-04 09:27 PM
