Evil Thoughts about selling the FD

I keep thinking about selling my 93. I'm done paying it off and started thinking about how much money I could get if I sold all the aftermarket stuff, and in the process converting the car back to mostly stock then selling it as well.

If I did all that I think I would be looking at maybe 30 grand, which would be enough to put a down payment on a house. I keep weighing my options and it's sounding better everyday. I dont know though...it's hard to say goodbye to it. What do you guys think?

Seems to be a common trend now. People selling their FD's for a house or to help raise a family. I't be awesome to keep your FD, but you have to think of the long run, and how selling it could benefit you're family, I guess. If you need to sell it for a house, then make sure you get that 30g's and a another FC on the side ;) .

It's a car, they come and go. A house is absolutely neccessary for a family. You can't raise a kid in your FD. I would say sell the car and get the house. Then once your secure down the road buy another FD if you care to do so. Just make sure you weigh your options logically.

Think about how much more it would be worth if you sold it in 10 or 15 years in mint condition. Just an idea.

DAMNNN that's sweet.

You better charge extra for your hood

Being that it's the original CF hood by us and all. If you have to sell it do yourself a favor and try tio find a buyer for a large portion of the stuff before you disassamble it all, then you aren't stuck sitting on everything, trying to come up with the $. It's a tough call man, but you'll have the FB as a backup...

Funny all this talk about a family.... I'm single with no kids! I'm just trying to get my shit straight in life. I'm 27 and have been making GOOD money for a while now, but I dont have much to show for it. No savings and some credit card debt too. I dont know.

Mike,
As far as selling everything, I think It would be better to sell as much stuff as posible individually even though it might take longer. For example, if i were to sell the M2 L IC and the greddy elbow seperately chances are I could get more money verses selling them together. I think Ebay would be the way to go anyways. Remeber that Peter ferrell IC? I sold it on ebay by it self for $820!

Oh and the hood, that baby ain't leaving easy! :)

Okay just playing around I made a list of what the items will sell for (ball park)...let me know if I'm on crack on any of these.

artguy 10-18-02 11:41 PM

btw....his car is in MINT CONDITION...there is not an fd on this entire site that is maintained to the level rays is.

the point about selling ten years from now...garaging it...treating it like an investment....isnt a terrible idea.

btw...my mom had a 57 T-Bird...a red one...got it when she was young...sold it when she had kids. she never forgave herself for selling that car....you know what those cars are worth now? she would also have enjoyed it years later. instead she got to enjoy the "smart" thing to do...and that thing was called a Pontiac Sunbird.

yer nuts....just be patient....you could garage it and save 30k in the next couple years if you wanted to.

afterall...with the house payments...the insurance...the maintenance...and everything else...god knows that in so cal a house means a girl wanting to MOVE IN...which means the anchor of kids within a few years...which means you got other priorities.

once you go for the green...another rx may never be seen.

hold on to your youth my man!

I would be interested in the RB Catback if you decide to sell. PM me whenever you make a decision. I understand. My wife wants me to sell my FD too.

also remember that in 15 years the fd isn't gonna go out of style. people who don't know crap about cars ask me "is that a 2002 or 2003?" the car is already a classic.

ARD T2 10-19-02 04:22 AM

Ray,

I thought we discussed this. hehe. Keep the damn car. Or take another loan on it to use for the house. Hmmm. Then later in the future after it's acquired some value you can refinance the house and pay the FD off again. Then you're just out the minor interest on the car. hehe.

Whatta ya think? It can be done. You got assets right. Or just take a loan on the car if interest is lower than your CC and pay off the cards. Then you won't feel so pressured. Still debt but it'll rearrange it. hehe.

Rishie

We spent too much time getting those wheels bro. They probably don't have more than 1000miles on them.

fritzfry 10-19-02 08:59 AM

You've got a great looking car there! My situation's not too far off from yours..I'm 32, single, good job, little savings, some credit card debt. The first thing I did after getting a job was buying a small house. I later got a home equity loan, some of which helped me pick up my R2. Maybe you could sell all the upgrades, return the car to stock and preserve it. My friends also thought mine was brand new. Good luck!

FD Racer 10-19-02 03:53 PM

The credit cards are'nt bad, so its not that.
I just dont see an end it sight anytime soon. What I mean is I want the car to be "right." I wont settle for anything less. To make me happy I would need to put in another 10 grand into it at least. Put ~10 in or cash out ~25? You guys see where I'm coming from?
I feel like I'm playing craps in vegas with a grip of money out on the table. Do I keep my bets out there and keep playing or do I pull them all in?

Rx-7Addict 10-19-02 04:25 PM

Like artguy said, hold on to your youth!

If youre making good money, maybe another few years and you could afford the house downpayment?

Toadman 10-19-02 04:34 PM

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Keep that in mind... :)

GoRacer 10-31-02 09:52 PM

Youth, what's that? ...i'll be 36 in a few hours :(
That means I have to stop dating 18yr olds, damn!

I allready have a house and got myself back in debt after I was out of it and have been thinking of selling also. My 7 helps keep my mind off of woman and sex "lol" but I would trade it for just one beautiful, petite and young girl that doesn't fuck me over!

Did I mention i'm going through mid life crises? :crzyeye:
