Anyone ever found a 6 speed tranny that'll bolt in with little modification?

HKS made one at one point. It was $10,000.

If you drop in an LT1, you can use the readily available 6 spd for that engine. ;)

The trend nowadays is to offer cars w/ 6 speed transmissions.

People should realize that just because there are more gears, doesn't mean that it is ideal. Heck, to be honest, to some extent, it just means more shifting.

Well, I'm looking to make a car thats a good road racer, and having a good close-ratio 6 sp is usually an advantage. Of course, the RX-7 has a pretty wide powerband, so that helps out a lot.

The only reason most of the cars have the sixth gear is gas mileage. In all reality the gearing is so low you don"t have enough torque to hit top speed in 6th gear. It would take a lot of torque to make 6Th gear a performance gear rather than a highway cruising gear.
