Ever lose one of these?
Mine popped off a few months back and I only just got around to getting clips for it today. lol.

Anyway, after arguing with the parts manager for a few mins about what pieces were actually missing (I actually had to take him out to my car and show him where things connect---lol), he had to order the clips. While looking the part up through Mazda of America (or whatever in-house system they use), he found out that there are only 27 clips left in the country. I ordered 4, so if you need some, I'd order some today. lol. Anyway, that's all. |
No, not yet. But I lost the screen mesh inside that.
My buddy had his headlight covers fly off at about 110. Lucky those were light, they caught the wind and were gone. I am suprised I haven't lost mine yet. They are bearly held in by those clips. |

picked up a bunch of them as well..
the old clips were 2 prong versus the current 4 prong... |
haha finally, im not the only one thats happened to!! no offense... yeah in the same month i had the driver side fender vent fall off and the passenger headlight cover fly off!! i was having a bad month!!

"in the country" is the key phrase. Mazda can refresh stock from Japan. I ordered the complete floor for a FD, 0 in country, 5 in Japan. It took 1 wk 3 days to get to my local Mazda dealer from Japan. Air Freight added $30 to the bill, well worth it IMHO.

That is why the clips were broken, the bodyshop likely broke the clips, replaced them with black goo and called it good when it was picked up from the bodyshop. I can tell it was painted due to the red paint being on the metal spring/retainer on the opposite side of the clips. |

I also found out my cars birthdate (2/4/92), because we had to look up which date it was because mazda changed the clips on February 19th of '92. |
What are the last 4 of your VIN?
Mine has a 2/92 build also:), last four are 1442. |

Wow they must have been building them pretty fast back then, yours was built on 2/4 and it is 100 cars after mine.
I had another 93 R1 with a 2/92 build, the VIN was in the 2500 range. I've got a 93 R1 in my garage right now with a 0459 VIN, with a 1/92 build. |

Compared to F-series trucks, Camrys and Accords FD production was slow.
Mazda cranked out 8000-9000 FDs in the first few months of production say 8-9 months. Then production, uh fell off a little. Consider the 1993 FDs entire TWO YEARS stock (introduced in late 1991 as a 1993) was built in 8-9 months from 12/91 to mid 92. So I'm just saying production of the FD was relatively hot in the begining. Jim, The rotary is a hand built motor, labor intensive. Even all the accesories, vacuum lines, etc are hand assembled. Car bodies are largely machine welded but the parts are hung in fixtures by humans, especially on a low volume car like a FD. |
