Ets fmic

Hey everyone,
Is there anyone on here that has actually installed an ETS (extreme turbo systems) FMIC. It calls for the front support to be removed, not sure that I really want to do this though. I know another older kit requires this as well (can't remember the name), but has anyone actually done this, and if so, can you please tell me how it turned out? And for some reason, you'll notice my end tanks look a little different, and i have a mount on the top of mine, looks like its for the hood latch to attach to.

I bought mine last year. It's a great unit, that I have any experience to compare it against, lol. I have some pics from last year when everything was put together. They seem like good people, I ordered it thicker and about an inch longer than they normally make them, I think.

How did you cut the support bar off? Grinder? And I sure wish mine was as thick as yours haha. |
BTW, that's cutting into structure on the car. Any front mount that requires that much hacking isn't worth putting in an FD, no offense.
Not to mention if you totally ditch the front bumper reinforcement a small fender bender can turn into major damage to the front of the car. Dale |
That's the only draw back, although it is one hell of a draw back. I kept everything that had to come off and plan on making changes once I finish nursing school. I figure I'll tweek this one while putting my fiance through law school and get it where I want it. After that though I'm getting a roller and doing a twin turbo 20b or possibly attempting a 4 rotor. Really depends on what my brother is up for after his project, oh and of course funds my fiance allows to go toward another project.
Oh, but to answer your question, my brother drilled out the welds just enough to get it off. |

Thanks for the info Dale. I've been concerned about this for a while.
I already have a the large PFS race SMIC, but wanted to free up engine bay space for my methanol fuel cell. With a large SMIC (pretty much the same as the Large M2 SMIC) there is no space at all in front of the pulleys. So I was thinking a FMIC would solve that problem. All of the other FMICs that I've seen require the radiator to be tilted upwards, and that also gets rid of the engine bay space that i need. I really don't want the meth tank inside the car anymore, but I'm having trouble finding a place for it. I picked up this intercooler used pretty cheap, so its not a huge deal if i don't use it, I can always just put the PFS SMIC back in. This intercooler has a pretty nice core, so maybe i can just mount it differently. |
If you can, modify it. I really like the intercooler but would prefer to have the structural support.

that ETS front mount only goes in one way - with a TON of hacking and cutting.
