Which engine wiring harness is right for me?
 

So I'm in the market looking for an engine harness to buy, but several sellers and myself have no clue if I can use their harness.

My car is 1994 popular equipment package model, and everything is pretty much stock, but I will be going non-sequential during this build.

I'm just wondering if the wiring harness needs to be the same year model, and with the same options as my car.

I have someone saying they can sell me there relatively new harness, but they used it for a single turbo set up. They say no wires have been cut on it, but I have no clue if this means its a good idea to buy their harness for my setup. I have a few others that are willing to sell, but they are all mostly 1993 cars. Again, no clue if the years are compatible. Just looking for some help.

it depends which harness you are after, if its the emissions harness, go through mazdatrix as they have them for $850 brand new, and throw the resistors onto the proper solenoid plugs so you dont get a CEL. If i remember correctly there were some factory service recalls on the 93 harnesses, and only the 94+ are for sale ATM, and they should be the same across all cars, although i am not sure about the popular equipment package model.

all things said and done, make sure and check pictures of the harness for the single turbo setup against the diagram that someone put together on here (do a search for "emissions harness diagram" or "wiring harness diagram" and youll find it) to make sure that nothing is cut or missing, otherwise youll have a hell of a time making everything work (read as hours soldering crap together and scavenging plugs from your old harness). In any case, best of luck, and when in doubt, buy the harness NEW to save headaches down the road later.

If the harness is in good shape and has all the plugs in good order, then buy it. Much cheaper than a new one and there's plenty of good ones floating around in the used marketplace. I picked up one for $150.00 (VERY good condition). I could buy 5 of those harnesses for 1 new one. my .02$ Of course I deleted a lot of the wires in my harness so I couldn't stomach the idea of forking over a lot of money for a new one only to remove 1/2 the wires.

If you do decide to go new, then at least get if from our community hook-up Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. 1888-533-3400. You won't be disappointed with Ray's prices or his service.

There are no differences in the engine harness between the years. The difference is in the COIL harness. There they took away an external ground point and rewired it to ground within the harness itself. Either way, any COIL harness will work - one gets bolted down, one doesn't.

That's the only difference that I know of in the harnesses by year.

all the US spec FD's have the same harness. well there are two, manual and automatic.

They are many engine harness differences besides the m/t a/t veriosn

N3A1-18-50Z; ZB; ZC; ZD; ZE; ZF; ZG MY93's used z throu ZE; MY94 ZE to ZF; MY95 ZF to ZG. N3a2 auto went up to J.

Changes during '95 were due to fan recall, existing cars got an add on patch harness whereas MY95 production got it built in also 95's did away with EGR so I would think wires were left ot.

You are welcome. Other change along the way was some ground wire combining, i.e. pigtais to one lead in places in lieu of two. I may purcahse a new harness and while i want the last as the "best" i and concerened if it deviates from my wiring diagram too much. 10 years down the road i may be scratching may head.

If you buy it from Ray Crowe you can give him your VIN number and he should be able to get your application specific part.

I wouldn't run a used harness unless you are on a tight budget.

I think there is only one harness available now, the 1995MY one.
