engine trouble
 

so today i started the car and i think i blew something. it was running in the drive way for about 10 mins, and when i was pulling out the car backfired twice, it sounded like a shotgun went off, i was seriously waiting for the cops to show up it was that loud!!! anyway i pulled the car back in, opened the hood and the engine was shaking the whole car. anyway i shut if off, but i think it is time for a rebuild since the car sounds totally different now. what do you guys think?

what mods do you have?

Motors don't really blow at idle, at least not ones that are broken in and were running the night before.

Take a sensible approach. If it ran well before the incident and you touched nothing then it could of just been rich from idling so long and simply backfired. These cars do this from time to time. Start by checking for codes ( Ten/Ground and then ign on ). No codes, then start it back up. Continues to do it, then as the gentleman above suggested, pull the plugs and check for fouling. If fouled, clean or replace. Also check for a rich environment - air filter element. Report back on what you found

And of course check the boost sensor to make sure the hose didn't pop off...

i doubt thats it. if he would have said pillowing black smoke then i would agree.

+1 on checking the plugs. are you running stock plugs? cause plug foul has been comming up alot lately, and the culprit ends up being them running 11 and 12's when they should only be running 8 or 9's. if you end up pulling the plugs..let us know what they look like (discoloration? buildup?)

sounds like a fouled plug to me. were you beating on it the night before?

Fouled plugs and running on one rotor. Change plugs as posted above and life will be back to normal.

damn you guys are good. i changed out the plugs put all new ones and it ran like a charm.

With the rotary it really can only be a few things: map sensor, fouled plugs, blown coolant seal or blown apex seals:) Dont be fooled and think we are knowledgable, the odds are just in our favor:rlaugh: J/K
