Engine Start Button

Hey I want to install an engine start button in the ride. I saw that that RX8 comes with one and this button i found says it can be mounted in the cigarette lighter adapter.... Does anybody have this installed on their car and how hard was the install? I have searched too btw.////

my RX8 didn't have one.
the install can't be that hard... you just wire one side of the button to ignition off the barrell and one side to ground... pressing the button completes the circuit and away you go.

what is it with people and push starters today?!

I did it on mine. It was extremely easy. Used a Genuine Honda S2000 Start Button, 30 Amp Relay and a Floppy disk drive power connecter to connect to the start button. Here's what it looks like in my car.

Did your ignition switch break or something? I dont get why the hell people insist on paying money for something that the car already does just fine...

the FD does well in the corners already, but do people upgrade their suspensions? yes! who cares i think its cool and it modernizes the car a little bit.

Very true. I do it more to make the car my own, to seperate it from others in town. For instance I put C5 rear brake vents on my car. To me its the little things that make a car more unique. Plus want else can you install on your car for less than $40.

Someone PM'd me for the how-to-install. Here's the site I followed along with iluvmyrx7.com (which is gone).

You do know that Honda is not the only manufacture that uses a Start button. How about Corvette C6, BMW, Jaguar, McLaren. The only reason I went with Honda is that it looks a hell of a lot better than aftermarket copies that and I don't want the company's name on my button. (ie. Ignited)

Is this Diagram that you posted still the same if you have a greddy turbo timer installed?

For those of you who dont want to solder the pins of the button (that and you have to remove some plastic if you want to solder them) you can use a Drive to Floppy Power Y-adapter for a PC. The plug fits perfect into the Honda Start button. Here's a pic.

You still use the key I hear. So what exactly is the point of this button?

NCMontegott Feb 16, 2006 08:37 PM

I Usually don't add anthing to my car unless it imporves performance, Fuk looking cool !!!
(wtf does a button do for performance??)

I have a genuine Honda S2000 start button. Never installed and brand new. I'll let it go for $30 shipped.

To make it more unique and race-car like like someone said.

Even the s2000 itself you have to use the key in order for the start button to work.

I mean would you just wanna use the button alone to start the car without the need for the key? Im sure that could work if you wire it differently. Might as well leave your keys in your car then cause thats what its gonna be like if you do that.

In this implementation it is only for looks. However, the Toyota Prius start button is a different story. Using a remote transponder (in your pocket) it can be started with only the start button. The traditional key is never used.

Now this would be a cool mod!

I think I'm going with a fingerprint recognition sensor on the gear shift knob to start the car..

Nuvolari Jun 9, 2006 03:08 PM

Its all up to your taste. I ran into a guy with a Cwest kit on his car, and a completly stock interior. My FD is bone stock on the outside but plenty of mods under the hood and interior.

I dont like the botton as mush as I dislike the lighter that I will never use.

LMAO.... How about a retina scanner through the PFC commander ?

quicksilver_rx7 Jun 9, 2006 04:18 PM

There is a rotor-shaped start button on the market, for those that don't know. For those that do, click here

BTW: There is also a search button at the top of the forum.

No sh*t.

DCrosby Jun 9, 2006 10:03 PM

I guess some people have never had issues with the stock ignition cylinder, some people have never had issues with 5'th gear syncro, and some people have never had the door handles snap off...

If you're not of the lucky few... alternatives to the Ignition Cylinder problem might be found by installing a new cylider, or a start button, since it's the actual turn to start that fails, not the Engine On or Acc position...

Uh oh, RICE POLICE.

Jesus christ it's his car, who cares? How is it rice? I think it's pretty neat. And if the person never uses their lighter anyways, why not? I would consider this but I always have a phone charger or something plugged in there.
