Engine stall under hard braking
My FD has done this once recently. On a panic stop, the engine died. It started back up no problem. The last time I had a quick stop hard braking, the engine wanted to stall then idle settle back out. This time it stalled out. No other problems out of the car. 145k on chassis, 75k on reman. Maybe something to do with the master cylinder or booster? Any ideas?

this may be a stupid question, but did you push the clutch in when you locked the brakes?

lightweight flywheel? my subaru stalls sometimes when im under a load and then just puch the clutch in from a high rev.

A leaky vacuum booster can cause this sort of problem. I had one on my old CRX that only leaked when the brake pedal was pressed. Pressing the pedal down with the engine running, the idle would rise a few hundred RPM and then fall off a second after I released the pedal. But if you really got on the brakes while driving, it would usually stall completely.

hhhmmm interesting

That's kinda what I've been thinking. It only does it when I slam on the brakes hard. And no lightened flywheel. Factory flywheel, ACT clutch. Only started recently, and only stalled once, but almost stalled one other time during a panic stop (cop was behind me when light turned yellow, so I stopped hard). |
does it only happen when your fuel is low?

Does it stumble every time you stomp on the brakes hard? My CRX would stumble and/or stall even when the car was parked and I quickly got on the brake pedal hard. You might try that test. FWIW, replacing the booster did fix the problem on my car. I've also seen a booster completely fill with fluid due to a master cylinder leak and an uneducated owner - pretty funny/tragic thing to see. Obviously you'd need to be topping off the reservoir A LOT to get to this point. |
No, not fuel level related.
When I get back to town, I'm gonna stomp on the brakes while stopped and see what happens. I've pressed them good at a stop light before, but not panic stop hard. not topping off the master cyl either, so doubt it's leaking. Thanks guys. |
