engine removal from an fd
 

i need help removing the motor and everything else in the engine bay from the body/chassis. i have already removed the radiator, the intercooler, the air box thing, and all the pipes and hoses connected to those things. i need help taking everything out of the engine bay (the motor, the transmission from under the car, etc.). i want to know the easiest way that i could just take out the motor with all the manifolds on it and take it out of the chassis. i have all tools and an engine crane/lift and an engine stand. if you guys could show me pics of where to take off what and what bolts to twist to take all of the parts off of the body that'd be great...thanks. -erik

The best advice I have recieved here is to disconnect the wiring harness at the ECU just inside the fire wall. The rest of removing the engine is just like any other car, keep loosenin till it comes out.

ya i understand that but where are the bolts located that will take the engine out of the car? taking an engine out of a honda isn't the same as taking an engine out of a rx-7. i could work on a honda engine with my eyes closed and my hands cuffed behind my back, but with a rx-7 it's different.

There are 7 bell housing bolts, the starter has to come out and the clutch slave has to be moved out of the way, remove the motor mount bolts, there is a ground on the lower front driver's side of the block, remove the connectors on the knock sensor and coolant sensor, remove the pair of horseshoe clips on the oil cooler lines. biggest pain in the ass is the pull-type clutch. good luck with that, with a pair of long flathead screwdrivers you can pop it loose, but it's tricky if you havent done it a bunch of times. worst case you can remove the pressure plate bolts one by one through the site window in the hellhousing.

I screwed up on the clutch disengagement and destroyed the lock ring. Cam from Pettit was kind enough to give me one, but I heard they are 30-$60. Be gentile

I just got the R&R video from www.rotaryaviation.com (Bruce Turrentine) and i have to say thats it pretty all enclusive. its around 30 shipped and worth every penny. hit them up it should be your best bet. They also have a rebuild video for the 13b and i got that too, Also worth every penny.

Yup, i blame it on piece o poop hurley apex seals. I have had much better luck since using oem seals.
