Engine Reinstall question
 

I just pulled my engine for a rebuild and will need to reinstall it soon. For those of you who have done this before I have a question. I unbolted the clutch from the flywheel for removal. For reinstall did you just do the reverse or is it easier to remove the clutch and bolt it to the flywheel BEFORE reinstalling and bolting the tranny housing to the engine?

Last time I pulled my motor, I just unbolted/bolted the pressure plate back to the flywheel.

man, I'm having a hard time following your question...

1) the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel, which holds the clutch disc to the flywheel (which must be aligned)
2) the entire assembly must be installed before bolting the tranny up to the engine.

maybe I've had too much coffee

dubulup - What I am saying is that I unbolted the pressure plate from the flywheel for engine removal through the trans cover plates. I was wondering if reinstall in easier to do the reverse or if it is easier to remove the clutch and pressure plate from the tranny and bolt it onto the engine flywheel before reinstall?

If you got all that stuff out already unless you know the milage on the parts in there nows the time to replace the throw out bearing disc and pressure plate. Hate to see you doing again shortly after you get her going again. I have to guess you put in a new pilot bearing and seal in the motor your installing ??

I had the clutch replaced a couple of years ago. I am not sure if they replace the throw out bearing at that time or not. Any way to tell by looking at it? And yes, the pilot bearing and seal will be replaced.

Clutch forks are relatively cheap too, and have been reported to fatigue and break. Just a thought.

Does the pressure plate just slide right off??? I'm pulling it, but it only slides a little bit then seems to get stuck. Is there something else I have to do first?

I think you need to see the video that WARGASM made on the pull type clutch.

Actually, I just found Wargasm's video on my hd. Makes so much more sense now. Now if I could only get the transmission and motor lined up (T-T).

If you have the motor mounts on the engine it will be next to impossible to get the input shaft of the tranny to line up with the motor as the tranny won't go high enough for the mounts to clear the frame and if they clear the frame the angle is too steep for the input shaft, you'll most likely damage the pilot bearing if you force it. The pressure plate release ring is the simpliest thing once you've done it.

You might also want to replace the clutch line to something like braided stainless steel. I don't like the idea of rubber exposed holding my clutch fluid. Can't shift mad quick yo!!!
