Engine Question
Hi All,
About to buy my first FD and have gone through all of the "new buyers" threads. However I still have a "noobie" question for everyone. I'm going to have the seller take the car in to his long time mechanic and run a compression test on the engine. Is there anything special that should be done for the test or can any good mechanic handle this. Also is there any other tests that I should have run prior to test driving the car. Thanks for all the input and sorry for the stupid questions but I'm just trying to be an educated consumer. - Wes |
i think any mechanic can handle somethin as simple as a compression test haha, after all, its not only done on rotarys, and if the *long time mechanic* cant even handle a compression test, but has been workin on the sellers car for a long time. DONT BUY THE CAR

compression test and a cooling system pressure test. i would for sure get those 2 done.

Drive test would be nice too.

thanks for the help. the car is out in boise ID and i'm going to have the seller complete the tests before i go out to see the car. i'll definitely have a coolant test preformed as welll, i just wanted to make sure that a rotary specialist didn't have to preform these tests.

when you get there, you'd want to go for a test drive. Also, make sure that he turns the car on cold. If the car is on for a warm up when you get there, then catch the next space shuttle back to Virginia. You do know the numbers that mean good compression right?
